Mikaela Shiffrin was all set to take part in her last and final event on February 19th, Saturday. However, the tournament was called off for the day owing to unruly weather conditions. Notably, this was the Mixed Team Parallel event at Beijing Winter Olympics.

Mikaela didn’t come to the Olympics thinking of participating at this event, but understandably, she’s giving her all to every last chance in a bid to get at least one podium finish.

This will be Mikaela’s very last event at the Winter Olympics, and the last attempt at a medal this year. Mikaela’s team comprises some very talented skiers from the US. The team is all ready to display its strength and dominance.

After receiving a DNF at the Combined Downhill event on Thursday, Mikaela Shiffrin lost her last chance at a solo Gold Medal. This Winter Olympics hasn’t worked in her favor at all. From multiple crashes to multiple DNF’s Mikaela is amidst one of her worst nightmares.

Now, Mikaela is going for that one last attempt at a medal this year. She will lead the Team for the Mixed Team Parallel event and will perform with some very talented skiers from the US.

Mikaela’s teammates include Prior Lake’s Paula Moltzan. River Radamus, Tommy Ford, A.J. Hurt, and Luke Winters. Notably, Mikaela and Paula will lead the team at the event.

Paula is a Junior World Champion and also the winner of the NCAA title in slalom in 2017. Meanwhile, River Radamus is a 2-time Junior Champion. Additionally, he is a? 3 time Youth Olympic Gold Medalist.

Tommy Ford, on the other hand, specializes in Super G and Giant Slalom. The American skier has been to two Winter Olympics and four World Championships.

A.J. Hunt is a 2-time National Champion, one each in alpine combined and giant slalom. Lastly, Luke Winters is also a World Cup skier, who was the junior champion in 2018.

All of these skiers have, time and again, made America proud and represented the country in International Sports. This time, they will come together to form one of the strongest teams at the event.

What are their chances?

Switzerland will be the defending champions at the Mixed Team event. While the US team is good enough, they might lack the energy after all.

For the event, it is important that both men and women perform equally well. In a 16-team knockout format, a team will have to win 4 rounds to win the Gold Medal.

Notably, this is a particularly new Olympic event, which made its Olympic debut just 4 years back. It was in 2005 that it was originally started in the World Championships.
