No other sibling pair has been able to catch the eyeballs of the tennis world quite like the Williams sisters. Both Venus and Serena Williams have undoubtedly revolutionized the game with their power and variety. The Murray brothers are also crowd pullers and TV rating boosters purely for their novelty value. Given the interest in siblings who are in the same sport, there was bound to be a decent curiosity when the world found out about Novak Djokovic‘s two tennis-playing brothers, Marko and Djordje Djokovic.

Novak, Marko, and Djordje were born to Srdan and Dijana Djokovic in Belgrade, Serbia. While ‘Nole’ is the eldest of the three, Marko is the middle one, and Djordje is the youngest brother.

Most, but not all of his doubles victories have come when he partnered with his elder brother. At Serbian Open 2009, Marko Djokovic and Darko Mađarovski defeated ATP doubles World Number two duo Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic. Notably, it was Marko’s first-ever ATP win.

In 2015, Novak Djokovic stated that Marko has stopped playing professional tennis. However, in 2017, he was back playing in the qualifying events on the ATP Challenger Tour.

Why is Novak Djokovic Called Nole?

In 2019, Marko and Novak played doubles and reached the semifinals at the Qatar Open. They also paired up at the Monte Carlo Masters on Clay but were knocked out in the first round.

The changes in the ATP ranking system boosted Marko’s singles ranking. He won three qualifying matches at Sevilla Challenger in August 2018. Due to the ranking changes, he was ranked as high as World Number 571 after he obtained five ATP points at the Sevilla Challenger. His highest doubles ranking is 323rd in the world.

Novak Djokovic’s brothers aren’t as established as him but in a subtle manner, the Serb champion guides them in tennis. He spends time discussing tennis with them only when the two younger brothers feel like doing it.

“I try to participate in their careers, but I figure that if I constantly talk about tennis, trying to improve their game, give them advices, that would maybe jeopardize our private relationship and brother relationship, which is truly what I want to have with them. I want to be able to speak freely with them, not only about tennis. Whenever they want to talk, we talk. We have a great relationship,” Djokovic told tennis.com.
