Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has finally flown out of Australia for a tennis tournament for the first time in several months. He will be playing Wimbledon Championships 2021 and along with singles, it looks like he will be playing mixed doubles as well.

Kyrgios posted an inquiry on his Instagram feed, asking for nominations for a mixed doubles partner at Wimbledon 2021.

“Mixed doubles for Wimbledon. Who wants in?” Nick Kyrgios asked.

Moreover, Kyrgios was rather emotional as he left Australia to fly to London and get ready for Wimbledon. “LAST DAY IN AUSTRALIA,” Kyrgios had tweeted.

Wimbledon will just be Kyrgios‘ third tournament in the last 12 months. The Australian player had famously revolted against the tennis restart in 2020 and hence had been hesitant to travel outside Australia. Kyrgios’ hiatus from foreign events continued in 2021 as he didn’t play a match after playing Aussie Open 2021.

Kyrgios’ grass-court season was supposed to begin before Wimbledon 2021. Earlier, Kyrgios had signed up to play the first edition of Mallorca Open 2021. Mallorca Open is happening just before Wimbledon and has Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev in the singles draw whereas World No.1 Novak Djokovic is playing in the doubles draw.

But since being out from tennis for so long, Kyrgios’ suffered setbacks in his preparations and has found himself under-prepared. He had also suffered small niggles while serving and hence didn’t play in Mallorca.

“My tennis family, I’m sorry my return has been pushed back as I am having some uncomfortable pain in my neck at the moment. I’m trying to get on top of it but as I can’t serve 100% I will only be returning when I feel I can make full impact on the tour. Will stay in touch.”
