The 19-year-old Coco Gauff created history by winning the US Open against Aryna Sabalenka. She not only won her first-ever grand slam but also became the second American teen to win a major after Serena Williams. And this achievement in itself is dynamic. However, before her win, there was a lot of speculation about her performance.
A few ‘haters’ made comments about having doubts about Gauff and if she will ever win a major. Owing to the same, tennis legend John McEnroe drops a few cheeky comments. He called out those haters who ever doubted Gauff’s ability to succeed.

After Coco lifted her trophy, many people came forward to congratulate her. And one of them was John McEnroe. Not only did he give a celebratory message to Coco, but he also very slyly bombarded Coco’s so-called ‘haters’ with a fun comment.
In his interview with Eurosport, he said, “I heard Coco talking about the people who were writing her off and saying that she was never going to win a major. Who were those people? I’m not familiar with those people because I think her progress has been steady.”

McEnroe even mentioned how she made it to the final of the French Open even though there were stumbling blocks along the way. The high praise coming from a legend must mean a lot to Coco. But he is not the only one to shower the new champion with praise and affection.
Coco defeated Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) to win her first career Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open. After going down in the first set, she made a terrific comeback to win the next two sets in an emphatic fashion. The victory over Sabalenka, who was the tournament’s second seed, marks the beginning of a bright career for Coco.
Besides John McEnroe singing praises of Coco, many other people chimed in as well. They included Barack Obama, Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Zendaya, and many more.
