

Roger Federer broke down after clinching a record 10th title at Swiss Indoors Basel 2019 in his hometown, defeating Alex de Minaur 6-2, 6-2 in the finals on Sunday.
The Swiss maestro explained that he does not restrain his emotions and wants to share his emotions with the crowd. The Basel native further suggested that it is always special to win a title in his hometown and didn’t expect to win 10 titles in there.

Talking about what triggers his emotions on the court in an interview with Tages Anzeiger, Roger Federer said: “I do not know exactly. Surely, I get emotional when I think about my family or my team. People think I’d just get such victories but there is so much behind it.”
The 20-time Grand Slam explicated that handling four children is a huge task but when he remembers his family on the court, it touches him and gets emotional when such things shoot in his mind.

“To handle four children is a challenge. A nice challenge. But when I stand there on the court and such things go through my head, it touches me. In addition, the music and the ball kids running into the arena. It will always be special for me in Basel,” the 38-year-old said.
Roger Federer also elucidated that he initially was not comfortable to showcase his emotions in front of the audience but his emotions come naturally as these victories mean a lot to him.

He further added: “I’m not trying to restrain my emotions convulsively and I want to share my emotions with the audience. I know these victories mean a lot more to me. I would never have thought of ten titles in Basel.”

“In the beginning, it was uncomfortable for me to show such emotions in public. But now it’s part of my career. I do not pretend, but do not try to do it extra. It comes naturally,” Federer concluded.
