One of Russia’s greatest tennis players, Maria Sharapova has done her nation proud with all her achievements. Over the years, Sharapova has done wonders in the game. She was first noticed by the world when she won her maiden final against Serena Williams at Wimbledon in 2004.

To win your first grand slam at the age of 17 against top seed and defending champion is worth being proud of. That victory at Wimbledon made her an overnight star in the eyes of millions. Since then, the Russian’s career took off and she started setting milestones for herself. From then until now, she went on the add four more slams to her tally, making it five slams in all.

Maria Sharapova: Waiting for Things to Ease to Play Tennis

Just after the Australian Open this year, Maria announced her retirement from tennis. Sharapova was defeated in straight sets by Donna Vekic in the first round. Recently, the Russian was asked if she yet plays tennis. To which, she said, “I haven’t in the last couple of months, because I’ve really been home. But I certainly will when things ease out a little bit around and are more flexible. It’s something that I love so much and I will certainly be on the court.”

The feeling would be different from before. The next time Maria lifts a tennis racquet, it would give her a distinctive feeling since it would be the first time she plays the game not anymore as a professional tennis player.

She voiced her opinion on that aspect and said, “It will feel strange and odd but I’m okay with that. I’ve always been someone that accepts a feeling when I’m not necessarily in a position of knowing it all or feeling great and I like finding a way. So I’ll embrace that feeling when it comes.”

Tennis is surely going to miss Sharapova in the future. She surely was one of the faces and carried the sport to the best of her abilities. In the future, the moments will be cherished whenever she makes her presence felt on the tour.
