The Xbox Series S announcement that came yesterday was quite vague. A series of leaks forced Microsoft to make the announcement and it was finally official. The Series S was probably Microsoft’s worst kept secret as people already knew about its existence. Nevertheless, it is now a fact that Xbox has a cheaper next-gen console, which puts things into perspective for Sony.

The so-called ‘console war’ now has a frontrunner in the form of the Series S. Its hardware specifications may be slightly underwhelming, but it can still run next-gen games. Additionally, the $299 price tag further helps its cause. How will Sony end this?

Microsoft made the first move back in 2013 when they announced the price for Xbox One before the PS4. Things didn’t work in their favor then, but it is different this time. The Series S has the price advantage over PS5 as Sony doesn’t have any known lesser counterpart of the PS5. This puts Sony in a tight spot and they really have to announce something spectacular to take the focus off Xbox.

Usually, when Xbox announces something, PlayStation is not far behind. But it seems they are taking their own sweet time to do the same. But they should understand that right now, the situation is such that everyone wants to hear something regarding the PS5. Everyone is anticipating an announcement and this would be the perfect time to counter Xbox with some big news.

There is still time for Sony to give the fans a surprise. No credible leaks have surfaced regarding the PS5, which further helps Sony’s cause. They should probably take complete advantage of this situation and turn the tide in their favor.
