Another big name has joined the draw of the Cincinnati Open. Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has confirmed his participation in the main draw of the Masters 1000 tournament. This will further boost the confidence of the organizers of both the Cincinnati Open and the US Open. Effectively this could also mean he will play the US Open as they are being held at the same location.

The resuming calendar for the ATP starts with Cincinnati. And with Andy Murray’s participation, this could help the US Open. As there won’t be any fans, getting British viewers to watch the US tournaments will be important. Andy is also a former Grand Slam winner and a past winner of Cincinnati so his participation is a boost.

“I missed that a lot, I’ve missed it” – Andy Murray on big tournaments like US Open

While speaking to Sky Sports, Murray said he missed playing the big events. Due to recurring hip injuries, Murray has not been able to participate in the bigger tournaments. Even though there is a risk involved, he will participate with caution.

“The situation I’ve been in last few years I’ve not had opportunity to play in many Slams, I don’t know how many opportunities I’ll have left to play in Slams,” Murray said.

“So, while I’m feeling relatively decent, obviously there is a risk there but I want to try and play in them and enjoy the biggest events again. I missed that a lot, I’ve missed it. I love playing the biggest events, even though this will be different with no fans but that is something I care about and willing to take a risk to go and play,” Murray added.

Murray will come to the US with a reduced team, with just his physio and coach accompanying him.

“Just my physio and my coach [will come]. That’s the plan. The most important thing for them is the insurance, the players are insured,” he said.
