It’s time for the most prestigious Grand Slam event of the year and players are all set to compete at the Wimbledon Championships 2021. When it comes to the Championships, tennis aces Roger Federer and Serena Williams always attract a lot of attention. The Swiss star has won eight titles and the American asset has bagged seven titles at the event.
Recently, tennis legend Mats Wilander spoke on the stakes riding on Roger Federer and Serena Williams. Both players have not won a Major in a while. However, they have come close occasionally. As far as the Swiss ace is concerned, he has his arch-rivals, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic too close for comfort.
The 7-time Grand Slam winner spoke on his topic and said, “One thing we must not forget is Djokovic won at Roland Garros he has 19 Slams and because Roger Federer is getting close to 40 years old and Serena Williams is getting close to 40 years old, we have a situation where Serena wins Wimbledon and we think it is her best chance and winning it this year is a better chance than winning Wimbledon next year. She needs her 24th here in order to tie Margaret Court and be considered the greatest of all time.”

Stakes high for Serena Williams and Roger Federer
The Swede felt the Wimbledon Championships is the best place for Federer and Williams to go the distance. The American player has been stuck on 23 titles for four years and if she wins, she can equal Court’s record and achieve further greatness. For Federer, he has to stop Djokovic from winning the title, or else he will be tied with him on 20 titles.
The 56-year-old added, “Same with Roger Federer, he has a better chance of winning Wimbledon this year than next year. He has a much better chance to win Wimbledon rather than the US Open, Australian Open, or French Open. Roger needs to win this one if he wants to be about as the GOAT. He has to stop Djokovic on his tracks right here and he needs to get to 21.”
