For years, WNBA players have admired Adam Silver as one of the strongest leaders in sports. So, in the middle of the current CBA uncertainty, the NBA commissioner has stepped in once again.
Speaking on FDSNI, Adam Silver said, “To see the popularity of Caitlin, to see the Fever exploding in popularity – not just here in Indianapolis, Indiana, but globally – it’s remarkable.”

His comment rings true, but it also comes at a crucial moment. The league is weighing major changes – higher salaries, a longer season, expanded travel, and new financial structures. All of it is on the negotiating table. And in many ways, Caitlin Clark is part of the conversation shaping the league’s future. So did Silver choose his words strategically?
It seems likely. Especially considering Napheesa Collier recently recalled a conversation with commissioner Cathy Engelbert, where the commissioner suggested that CC owed her rise to the WNBA. That remark stirred frustration among players. So, Adam’s praise sounds like an attempt to ease tensions – a bit of healing commentary at a sensitive time.
