The Chicago Sky stands at 1-4 since the Olympic break and they most likely will be without their top scorer for their next encounter. Chennedy Carter leading with 17.2 points will be out for tonight’s fixture against the Washington Mystics. The Washington Mystics will travel to Wintrust Arena in Chicago to take on the Chicago Sky, who are currently 8th with an 11-18 record.

There is a concern looming since Tuesday’s practice session was abruptly canceled. According to Sky’s general manager, Jeff Pagliocca, the reason behind the last-minute cancellation was that multiple players on the team felt sick. In response, players were spotted wearing masks at the Sachs Recreation Center.

He later spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times and said, “We’re testing for COVID-19 and speaking with our doctors to hear what they would suggest progression-wise.”

Annie Costabile, the Sun-Times reporter, gave an update ahead of the game. Coach Teresa Weatherspoon spoke to Costabile regarding the protocol that ensures the usage of the mask. Further, she wrote on her X, “TW said masks are just to take care of each other and keep everybody as safe as possible.

Currently, no official update is provided which states that the illness is directly related to COVID-19. Players were told to use masks, probably as a sign of preventive care. Carter, on the other hand, will be missing the action on the court while off the court, she is active on her social media. She uploaded a couple of stories, and one, in particular, appreciated her hooping skills as she wrote, “ngl my form isss sexxxxy.” But, without their leading scorer, how will the Sky be on the hardwood?

Are Angel Reese and the Sky in trouble without Chennedy Carter?

The Chi-town is on a losing streak for the last three matchups, and in the last game, they lost to a buzzer-beater. And it was Carter who tied that game against Las Vegas. However, with about a second remaining, Aces’ MVP A’ja Wilson won the game with a basket. Even Angel Reese’s 22 rebounds weren’t enough for them to secure the victory.

On the other hand, the Mystics are on a two-game unbeaten streak but are currently outside the playoffs. The trio of Ariel Atkins, Brittney Sykes, and Shakira Austin are inspiring their team to victory. But, the WNBA team from the U. S Capital will be without their center Shakira Austin, and will rely on the other two top scorers against the Sky.

However, standing tall in their way is the double-double queen, Angel Reese. The Sky rookie is currently on an unprecedented run of three consecutive games with 20 or more rebounds. Even without Carter, she would look to break another record. With 21 double-doubles this season, she is one away from breaking the rookie season record in that category.
