Founded in 1860, 163 years ago, Louisiana State University is one of the most prestigious universities in the U.S. today. LSU first began as a military academy. While it no longer serves that purpose, the institute is famous for its military tradition and is even fondly called ‘The Old War Skule.’ While the university has a rich history with the military the school today is more notable for its research activities and is classified amongst R1 doctoral universities making LSU a prime destination for many aspiring students.

Despite being an elite research university with top-ranked programs across the nation, LSU has become increasingly synonymous with athletics in recent years. Gymnast Olivia Dunne and basketball star Angel Reese are a few notable athletes who suit up for LSU currently. The latter recently blushed over another LSU alumni’s words as she set her targets for the upcoming NCAA season.
