A’ja Wilson produced another brilliant performance, helping the Las Vegas Aces knock the Indiana Fever out of the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. However, that showcase came after serious reflection following her Game 2 altercation with an Indiana Fever fan.

Speaking at the post-game press conference following the Aces’ 94-83 victory over the Fever, Wilson revealed how she did not let her emotions and frustrations from two nights ago carry over into the do-or-die game at home, which helped to lead the Aces with 36 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, and an assist, shooting 11-of-18 from the field.
“Honestly, I had my days. I had my moment, cuz I’m human. But after a while, I understood that I didn’t want that to be a distraction to myself and to my team, and I knew what we had to do coming into tonight. So, I put it behind me.”
Wilson revealed her mindset during the post-game press conference uploaded on the Las Vegas Aces’ YouTube channel, when asked whether she used the incident with the fan as fuel or completely put it to bed.
“I prayed a lot. I cried a lot. I talked to a lot of different people, and the amount of love that I received today, the amount of Bible verses I received today, reminded me that I’m covered.”
“So I can’t really worry about anything else. And I’m so grateful to be surrounded by people that could constantly lift me up. So once I put that on the back burner, I had to come up; I had to show up for my team today, and I’m glad we got the win.”
This infamous incident happened in the dying minutes of Game 2 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, when Wilson had an out-of-character moment. With 4:10 remaining in the fourth quarter and the Fever leading 88-77, Wilson got caught up in an off-ball battle with Fever guard Sophie Cunningham.
Following the sequence, a foul was called on Cunningham, who fell to the floor after trying to navigate a screen near the perimeter. While she was protesting the call, a fan stood up and started pointing towards her.
According to witnesses, he was saying that the foul should have been on the Aces star, not Cunningham. Wilson did not take kindly to the pointing gesture, and she started walking toward him while yelling.
The situation was about to escalate further when Sydney Colson and other teammates of Wilson stepped in to put a stop to it.
A’ja Wilson received a technical foul from the officials for “unsportsmanlike conduct,” but they did not eject her from the game. As for the fan, he was promptly returned to his seat after arena security did not find anything wrong with his actions either.
The Indiana Fever even released an official statement on this matter.
“Following a report of a comment directed toward a player, arena security spoke with the fan involved and witnesses. Security determined there was no violation of the Fan Code of Conduct, the fan was not removed from the arena. We consider the matter closed.”
However, Wilson saw the matter quite differently from her perspective and did not mince her words following the Game 2 loss against the Fever.
“I apologized to my team because I got us a tech. But it’s just certain things that I’m just not going to allow anymore because it’s just unacceptable.”
By the time Game 3 came along, all the four-time MVP cared about was winning the game and progressing to the semifinal. That’s what Wilson said in an interview immediately following the win.
“We kept saying, ‘Empty the tank, empty the tank.’ You have to do it on days like this.”
Now, the reigning champions will play the winner of the Golden State Valkyries and Dallas Wings in the semifinals, as A’ja Wilson and co. are once again the favorites to win the WNBA championship.
