After a massive lead in the first quarter, the Indiana Fever were struck with injury trouble in the second. In their matchup against the Seattle Storm, they held a 37-20 lead. But just when everything appeared to be going according to plan, one awkward collision involving Aliyah Boston and Flau’jae Johnson left the fans worried.

She immediately grabbed her knee in visible pain. Her teammates – Caitlin Clark, Lexie Hull, and several other Fever players – quickly surrounded her, clearly concerned for her well-being. Boston’s teammates, including Clark and Hull, urgently rushed to her aid, while the team’s medical staff arrived to evaluate the four-time All-Star. Aliyah Boston stayed down on the floor for a while before she was eventually helped to her feet and escorted directly to the locker room.
With 5 minutes remaining in the second quarter, Boston initiated a pick-and-roll by passing the ball to Caitlin Clark. As the Fever center rolled toward the basket looking for a return pass, her leg got tangled with Johnson’s, and she crashed hard onto the floor and landed directly on her right knee.
In the 11 minutes she played, Boston recorded 11 points and two rebounds.
Now, the worst part about what happened is her health history. Boston is already managing a lingering right lower leg injury throughout the season after first suffering it during Unrivaled in February. This issue has forced her to miss two preseason games before sidelining her for the first regular-season game on May 17. And while the seriousness of this injury remains unclear, the Fever has marked her as “questionable to return to tonight’s game.”
Recently, ESPN gave the Fever the best odds of any WNBA team to win the 2026 championship. That prediction, however, depends heavily on Indiana’s star trio of Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston remaining healthy.
Boston has been the interior anchor of Indiana’s high-powered offense this season. She is currently averaging 17.3 points per game while shooting 52.7% from the field. Her ability to finish around the rim and score efficiently in the paint complements Clark’s playmaking and Mitchell’s perimeter scoring, which is exactly why the Fever have one of the league’s most balanced offenses.
For now, Aliyah Boston’s status has been updated to a game-time decision. If she is forced to miss extended time, it would leave a significant void on both ends of the floor just as the Fever enter the most important stretch of their season. Further updates are expected after the game.
