“Prayers for Kelsey Mithcell. That is my draft partner. To see her go down like that was not good. Super prayers out to her,” said A’ja Wilson after securing a win in Game 5 of the Aces-Fever Semi-Finals series. It is no secret that the Indiana Fever had struggled with injury issues throughout the 2025 WNBA season. Therefore, it was certainly a blow when Kelsey Mitchell, who carried the offense load for the majority of the playoffs, went down with lower-body cramping. Aliyah Boston recently shed some light on the same from a teammate’s perspective.

The Indiana Fever power forward/center participated in a post-game presser alongside teammate Odyssey Sims and head coach Stephanie White. During the session, a reporter reminded Boston how she helped Mitchell get up from the floor after the latter had sustained the injury. When asked what that sequence was like and what it took to snap back into the game, Boston replied, “Honestly, I felt like I got just kind of emotional seeing her down there. But, for me, just trying to keep her calm, getting her slow breaths and, you know, once she walked off the court, it was time to just focus on rallying around her and making sure that I’m focused for when it was my time to go back in”.

Both Fever and Aces players gathered around after Kelsey Mitchell remained lying down on the floor of the basketball court. After Mitchell was helped up and was being escorted to the locker room, Aces stars like A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Grey, Jackie Young, and Jewell Loyd came around to give their love to their rival. For a brief moment, the emotional state of the situation even compelled players from the rival team to offer their sympathies.

Even head coach Stephaine White couldn’t help but get emotional. During the post-game presser, when asked about any health update, the 48-year-old revealed, “She’s got a lot of lower body cramping. She’s currently at the hospital right now getting fluids”. As she spoke, White found it hard to control her tears. Also, her voice was cracking in between her remarks.

Aliyah Boston Once Lauded Indiana Fever Staying Strong Amid Injury Issues

As mentioned, injury issues had continued to plague the Indiana Fever throughout the 2025 WNBA season. Around mid-August, Sophie Cunningham got herself added to the Injury Report after the Fever guard suffered a concerning knee injury just minutes into the game between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun. Cunningham’s injury reportedly added to the already ultra-thin depth at the guard positions. Despite this, Boston led the charge in emphasizing the importance of staying together and remaining motivated at all times.

During the post-game presser, Aliyah Boston discussed her mindset by stating, “Every day in our huddle, that’s what we say. ‘Together’. And it’s just more than words for us. I think when you see things happening, there’s just no other way…People are probably expecting us to just fold…and that’s not us.” Furthermore, she added that “You know, when one person goes down, we say all the time, the next woman stands up. And that’s really just been our motto and been what we’ve had to do a lot this season. And that’s what we’re just going to continue to do.”
