After the way 2025 kicked off, you all thought at one point that Kahleah Copper and Angel Reese were beefing, didn’t you? The illusion began when the Mercury’s social media team posted a photo of Reese and Copper on X with the caption, “front runners for unrivaled comedic duo already 😭”. Under the post, Reese wrote “grandma, you can always come… nvm we got 10 weeks to chat🤭”. What was to be placed before “nevermind?” That’s a mystery the fans solved, as they assumed it to be “back to Chicago.”  The context here is that Kahleah Copper played for the Sky from 2017-2023. She even won a WNBA championship there in 2021. However, that wasn’t enough to appeal to the free agent as she responded with a “Go to timeout nowwwwww😭.”

As the spring passed and summer arrived, so did the heat, June’s first half was pure fireworks. The WNBA fans’ X timeline saw its longest back-and-forth this season. The two picked off right where they left with some playful exchanges. On June 13th, Kahleah Copper tweeted “cheating on my eyebrow lady, pray for me yall.” Responding to this, Angel Reese did exactly the opposite of what Kahleah Copper asked, “i hope she mess them up. thank ya,” she said. Now since Reese was already on Copper’s X timeline, she took the opportunity to respond to some older tweets that she once forgot about, “oh yeah i forgot to reply to this too… you been acting real shady since unrivaled too. you didn’t even want to speak in phoenix and had to facetime me after smh.”

Well, does that read like feud to you? To us it sounds like a friendly relationship based on openness. After this, Copper was quick to remind Reese, “Lol you actually replied smartasssss!! And don’t even start making up stuff on the net I’m not playing wit youuuuuu😒.” That letter elongation screams “besties” to us. Angel Reese admitted she might have forgotten a few details but she stayed firm, “you right. IM STILL OFF YOU.” Now, hoping to lift Reese’s mood up, Kahleah Copper gave her some news “@Reese10Angel just miss me.. I’ll be in chicago soon 😘.” Turns out it worked quicker than any of us would’ve imagined as Reese responded with a cheeky “nah, can we meet outside of the workplace? damn.”

However, that wasn’t the end of their DM-turned-public-thread saga. Unfortunately for Reese, the eyebrows were sharp and so was an on-court response by Copper. The last time their squads met, Kahleah Copper stole both, a win over the Sky and Reese’s signature line: “DUBS IN THE M* CHATTTT.”

Moreover this time, the outcome wasn’t any different as their matchup ended in a 67-83 loss for the Sky. However, the sidelined Reese didn’t hold back from celebration. It showed because, she embraced Copper like a long-lost sister, complete with on-court smiles and hugs. The two looked exactly like the duo who could exchange sharp sarcasm online and yet stay close. Angel Reese even went on to hug Alyssa Thomas and stayed excited throughout. The sidelined Sky forward looked like she almost forgot that this was their 8th consecutive loss for the season! And 3rd one against Phoenix. Although, that just shows that she respects competition. After all it was Copper and Thomas who handed Sky this defeat.

Kahleah Copper scored game high 25 points, while Alyssa Thomas recorded a triple-double. Thomas ended the night with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. This also marked her second triple-double with the Mercury and 13th in the regular season. Hopefully for Angel Reese, this reconciliation will be permanent, if it was a genuine feud to begin with. Was it?

Have an interesting take?

Even on the 4th of July, when Reese’s “some-BODY” post blew up online, Copper was right there with a playful dig: “Where are your clothes?” And true to form, Reese clapped back: “In Philly.” The comments went wild with reactions like “PrettyGyal” and “Teaaaaa.” The post also proved that she’s a social media powerhouse and a style icon. She’s also proven she can handle the spotlight. After a game against the Sparks, Reese talked about the hate and drama she’s dealt with this season. But through it all, she’s stayed unshaken, and authentic. That includes knowing when to share a moment (or a hug) with someone who used to be her teammate and might still be low-key cheering for her.

At the end of the day, whether these exchanges were sweet or bitter, one thing’s clear: there’s way more respect than any bad blood between them. It’s all filled with little drama, a lot of love, and enough twists to keep us all entertained.
