What began as some harmless banter about Angel Reese on an episode of the Club 520 podcast has now exploded into one of the most viral catchphrases used on X. Not many words on the internet have ever become as viral in a sports community as ‘Mebounds’ has. Coined by “Bishop B Hen” Hendricks to describe Reese’s habit of rebounding her own misses, the phrase quickly became the fans’ go-to word to troll Reese. But we are talking about the Chi-Town Barbie here. She was never going to let the hate get to her!
Naturally, we at ES covered extensively how she decided to trademark the word after submitting her application to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, listing Maryland (her home state) as the filing jurisdiction. She had even dropped a TikTok in the most sassy fashion, making it clear that she was going to have the last laugh. “Whoever came up with the ‘mebounds’ thing, y’all ate that up. Because mebounds, crebounds, keybounds, tebounds… anything that comes off the board, it’s mine. Whoever came up with that, the trolling, I love when y’all do it, because the ideas be good,” she said.
The idea behind trademarking the word was simple. She wanted to make it impossible for creators like Stat Stuffer to profit off that phrase and wanted to shut the haters up in her own unique way. She even released a full merchandise line featuring the now-iconic phrase. The collection includes everything from T-shirts and sweatshirts to hats and slides, with prices ranging from $28 to $75, available in both youth and adult sizes. Clearly, she wasted no time. After all, unlike her earlier attempt to trademark “Bayou Barbie,” which ran into trouble with Mattel, “mebounds” was all hers to own and run with.

But Angel Reese wasn’t done yet. In a June 29 article by Brooks Peck for The Athletic, it was revealed that Reese had taken things a step further. She expanded her brand by filing a trademark for the word “Reesebounds” too. And it meant much more than just shutting the haters up and expanding her brand. After all, a portion of the proceeds will go toward supporting cyberbullying prevention efforts through The Angel C. Reese Foundation.
You can’t possibly expect anything less than this from the Bayou Barbie. If there is one person who would know what it’s like to be bullied constantly on the internet, it’s Angel Reese herself. Since time immemorial, her shooting efficiency of 39.1% has always been made fun of. Even though she’s averaging 12.3 rebounds and 11.7 points per game this season, fans have found ways to make fun of her.
The most recent example of this? The game against the Golden State Valkyries last night! Her fourth foul on Tiffany Hayes late into the game potentially cost the Sky the game against Golden State. The fans were quite right to be angry, and you can check out their reactions here. Yet, while fan hate seems to follow Angel Reese no matter how hard she tries to shake it off, there was one recent moment that surely brought a smile to the Bayou Barbie’s face!

Angel Reese’s brother gets picked by the Lakers
Julian Reese, Angel’s younger brother, went undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft after a solid four-year stint at Maryland. But his NBA dreams aren’t over just yet. The Los Angeles Lakers have come calling and have added him to their Summer League roster. If he can impress in Vegas, he could earn himself a two-way contract.
Angel Reese couldn’t contain her excitement and took to X to celebrate her brother’s big moment. “OPPORTUNITY. COME ON JU.” She said on X. Julian, who averaged 13.3 points and 9 rebounds per game, will certainly look to take full advantage of this opportunity and try and earn his way to the NBA.
Now, don’t be surprised if Juju also starts getting some similar accusations just because of his last name. As he said after scoring his 1000th rebound: “The rebounding thing, that runs in the family. I just think it’s like a heart thing.” Thankfully, Reese has been setting up some great examples for him. She recently secured the fourth spot for the most 15-point, 15-rebound games in a player’s first two seasons – trailing only MVPs like Tina Charles, Yolanda Griffith, and Jonquel Jones.

While it’s inspiring to see Angel Reese consistently use her platform to stand up for what’s right, it’s unfortunate that a section of fans continues to scrutinize her every move. But that’s the reality of being a professional athlete. You have to be signed up to face criticism at every step of the way. That said, what do you think about Reese’s stand against cyberbullying?
