The Chicago Sky’s season hasn’t exactly gone according to plan. Trading away a pick that could’ve landed them rookies like Sonia Citron or Kiki Iriafen for veteran guard Ariel Atkins hasn’t paid off just yet. They have already lost 13 games this season, and the playoffs look like a distant dream for coach Tyler Marsh and his team. But the only bright spot in an otherwise lackluster season for the Chicago Sky has been Angel Reese.

Reese is without a doubt in the form of her life. She has scored 122 points and 133 rebounds in her last 7 games. Such numbers are unheard of, especially when you consider the rocky start she had this season. In her first 8 games, Reese was averaging just 10.1 points on 35.8% shooting. She became an easy target for criticism, but the ‘Chi-Town Barbie,’ like always, found a way to embrace the hate and become even better.

Before the Dallas Wings game, Reese had already made history with six consecutive games of 15+ rebounds! This was the longest streak in WNBA history. But heading into the Wintrust Arena tonight, there were question marks about her availability. According to UnderdogWNBA, her status was changed to questionable due to a leg injury.

But Reese did play against the Dallas Wings, and she balled out! She scored 15 points on 6-10 shooting from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds. This marked her 7th consecutive double-double, which is also currently the longest active streak in the W, according to ESPN. But this also meant that her 6 game streak of grabbing 15+ rebounds had come to an end.

But does that matter? Reese’s performance meant that the Sky would finally get their 6th win of the season…in 19 games. It’s far from the season they envisioned back in May, but every win counts– especially when your playoff hopes hang by a thread. Still, for the 23-year-old, this week was one to remember and one she’ll be proud of, among other things.

“I’m from Baltimore. It’s not easy coming from Baltimore—just being able to make it out, making diamonds from nothing. I didn’t come from money. I grew up with just me, my mom, and my brother. My mom made a lot of sacrifices for us, so just being able to be here today, I’m super grateful,” she said.

Angel Reese debuted her signature sneakers against the Dallas Wings tonight and made sure to put on a show while doing it! She hopes she can continue delivering such performances every game day. Fans will no doubt be interested in buying her shoes and will be patiently waiting for more details to come out. But for every fan out there, the priority will be to watch Reese deliver wins for the Sky.
