But this week had a bigger impact on Angel Reese individually. Against the Los Angeles Sparks, Reese created WNBA history by recording 26 rebounds and breaking a 23-year-old record. That same night, she also overtook A’ja Wilson’s single-season rebounds record of 451, as the Dream completed their first 4-0 road trip in franchise history. But Reese’s rebounding magic wasn’t finished, as she recorded another double-double against the Dream, finishing with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

In the next game against the league-leading Minnesota Lynx, Angel Reese broke another WNBA single-season record. The Dream forward recorded 15 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block in the 89-81 victory, producing her 29th double-double of the season. With that, she surpassed the previous record of 28 set by Alyssa Thomas.

With another addition to her resume, Reese’s first season with the Dream saw her establish WNBA records for rebounds in a game, rebounds in a season, offensive rebounds in a season, and double-doubles in a season.

Angel Reese became the fourth Dream player in franchise history to earn consecutive Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors. She is the second Dream player to receive the honor this season, Rhyne Howard, who will also feature in the World Cup for Team USA alongside Reese.

Apart from Reese, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark made a strong case to win Player of the Week honors, as she recorded a mammoth 37-point, 10-assist performance against the Chicago Sky. Clark followed that with another eruption against the Connecticut Sun, posting 34 points and 12 assists. This was the fifth time this season Clark scored at least 30 points and made 10 assists.

Clark has already won Player of the Week five times this season and was the reigning Player of the Week for the Eastern Conference before the Double-Double Barbie won it back-to-back.

Ultimately, Reese’s record-breaking week with the Dream was chosen over Clark’s scoring run. The 24-year-old’s POTW award also came as she helped the Atlanta Dream climb up the WNBA standings into third place ahead of the defending champions Las Vegas Aces.

While the playoff teams have already been decided, the eight teams who have qualified for the 2026 playoffs are trying their best to secure a higher seed in order to gain home-court advantage. The Atlanta Dream still have four games left in their regular season schedule when the WNBA resumes play on September 16, following the 2026 FIBA World Cup in Berlin, Germany, where Angel Reese will represent the USA alongside Caitlin Clark and the league’s biggest American stars.

Reese made her Team USA debut on March 11 earlier this year during the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifiers held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She averaged 6.8 points and a team-high 8.0 rebounds during that campaign. Reese has definitely upped her game since then, and now has the chance to show it off on the biggest international stage in women’s basketball.

Moreover, Angel Reese has the chance to be in head coach Kara Lawson’s starting lineup, now that the two-time World Cup winner and 2022 MVP A’ja Wilson is out of the competition due to her ongoing back issues. Team USA will once again be favorites to win it all for the fifth consecutive time, as Reese and co. start their quest on September 4 against China.
