“Bayou Barbie” was the nickname Angel Reese had during her days at LSU under Kim Mulkey, which then became “Chi Barbie” as she made her way to the Chicago Sky. Nobody else has embraced the “Barbie” moniker every step of the way quite like Reese, even going to great lengths to trademark it, but was denied due to conflicts with Mattel’s intellectual property rights. But she didn’t stop, as her latest Instagram move is drawing all the love the Sky star deserves.

Today, most likely as an homage to her admiration for Barbie, Reese shared a new archive account [barbieeearchive] alongside a photo of herself in an exquisite tiger-fur coat, with makeup, sitting in a limo and taking in the outside view.

Reese has come a long way in her career, and over the years, her connection with the brand has only become stronger. For her, Barbie isn’t just about fashion; it’s way more than that. It’s about femininity and how people can make their dreams come true, despite where they come from.

“This is for the girls that look like me, they said that they can’t do this,” Reese had confidently said after beating Caitlin Clark’s Iowa in the final (102-85) in 2023. “Y’all told me to calm it down. Y’all criticize me all year. I’m her, I am telling you I’m the Bayou Barbie, period.”

Those were turbulent times in college basketball, and the rivalry between the two future WNBA stars was just beginning to shine through. Reese’s John Cena-esque “You Can’t See Me” gesture had touched a nerve, leading some fans to even call Reese classless.

Reese, who’s also made strides as a fashion icon, made history in October 2025 as the first professional athlete to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. She consistently turns heads with her fashion choices, and that cannot be denied.

The Sky star’s Instagram post naturally got the fans talking, who couldn’t hide their excitement about what she has in store for them this year.

Fans show their support for Angel Reese’s ‘Barbie Archive’

Who can forget Angel Reese’s outrageous Barbie-core outfit? The all-pink ensemble that she wore – an all-pink, Y2K-inspired look with a Baby Phat rhinestone-logo top and matching mini skirt. The outfit was layered with a fluffy pink fur-lined crocodile jacket, chunky pink knee-high boots (by Akira), and a luxurious hot pink Hermès Birkin bag, as she was courtside watching the Chicago Bulls vs Orlando Magic. She captioned the post “BARBIE WORLD”.

This is what Angel Reese truly personifies: a fashionista off court and an exceptional talent on it.

While many outgrow childhood interests, Reese’s connection to Barbie deepened over time, evolving into a symbol of empowerment. She explained this perspective herself.

“I call myself the Barbie is a doctor one day, a trainer one day, a nurse one day, and being able to be a jack of all trades, you don’t have to do just one thing, and I learned that at LSU,” Reese had said about her outlook towards life. “I had teammates. One teammate is a rapper, models, like being able to do both, you can do that. Women are expected just to do this, this, this, like I’m going to be outside the box.”

“I’m here 👑Queen,” a comment that showcases why so many women can resonate with that sentiment, as they see one of their own breaking barriers.

Reese, an ambassador for Barbie, is all set to appear as a guest speaker at Mattel’s Barbie Dream Fest in March!

“Hi Angel, I really admire your dedication and how you inspire young athletes. I’m on my own journey in [your field] and would love to connect and learn from your story. Thank you for being such an inspiration,” a fan wrote in the comments.

Just like Reese is a fierce competitor, known for her brash, inimitable style on court, she embraces a different side off the court, showcasing her love for fashion and Barbie with a bold sense of style.

Barbie has always been a reflection of you and of how you perceive yourself, and Reese sees herself not merely as a basketball player but as something more.
