The semi-final game between Mist and Breeze in Unrivaled wasn’t just limited to the scoreboard, but it had so much more to give, a feeling that echoed beyond the realm of the glass court. It was a classic showdown between two of Dallas Wings’ best – a veteran (Arike Ogunbowale) and a newcomer (Paige Bueckers) who are on different ends of the spectrum at the moment. Naturally, there was frenzy, excitement, and buzz about which player would come out on top.

The back-and-forth game happened, and in the end, it was the experienced Ogunbowale who guided her team to a win (73-69) after hitting a 3-point jumpshot, earning a spot in the finals. When Arike was finally done with the game, she had made 21 points, the second highest for her team, right behind Breanna Stewart’s 23.
Well, Paige, too, didn’t slack off and did make 17 points, but in the end, it was to no avail. Many would have expected Paige to go the distance after the performances she was putting up. After a fantastic debut in Unrivaled, she has no choice but to console herself with a semi-final finish.
Arike truly played some exceptional basketball that day that would have been hard to handle for any team. The sidestep to the finish to wrap up the game was a treat to watch, and that truly summarized how good she looked on the floor. Paige’s team had no answer to that.
But the on-court battle masked a deeper team dynamic. Beyond the Paige-Arike friendly rivalry, there was a bigger story that did not miss anyone’s attention, and fans were quick to share their thoughts on the matchup.
Fans Give Their Honest Reaction To Arike’s Win Over Paige
Arike’s win over Paige felt personal to many, as many fans believed it proved a point much deeper than what appeared on the surface.
“That was personal because everyone tried to write her off last year after Paige joined the team,” said a commenter on how the team dynamic had changed when Paige made her move to Dallas.
That wasn’t surprising, as Paige Bueckers was adored by the media. She was the No. 1 draft when she came in with an NCAA title to boot, so how could you possibly question that? The media had already created the narrative to describe the Wings as Paige’s team, even when Ogunbowale had a terrific last season with Dallas.
Averaging 22.2 points, 5.1 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and a career-best 2.1 steals per game, while shooting 92.1% from the free-throw line, she is in a league of her own, but even then, her team has struggled. The Wings finished 10-34 last season, and that must have stung. But now Arike had finally found redemption, too, on a very special day.
“Happy Birthday, Arike! Ending the night with a game-winner and a trip to the finals is the ultimate flex,” said a fan who was visibly impressed with what they saw.
The game was played on Arike’s birthday (March 2nd), and she couldn’t have asked for a better birthday gift. Winning against a very strong team that had a superstar in Paige Bueckers. As Ogunbowale is set to enter free agency soon, there is a huge question mark regarding her future with the Wings.
Dallas has embraced a modern approach where they are doing away with the experienced to make way for the new. They have already traded away experienced stars like DiJonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith to stockpile draft picks and younger talents, and that indicates a rebuild rather than continuity. So will this performance make the Wings reconsider?
“Arike really said, ‘It’s my birthday, I’ll take this win,’ came another comment.
Well, there’s no better way to make your birthday more special than coming out as a star of the show. And if this is a sign of things to come, any team that will look to sign her up should feel proud of the talent they are recruiting.

Because rumor has it, Azzi Fudd will be on her way to the Wings to strengthen their ranks. Fudd is considered one of the best pure shooters entering the draft, with deep range and consistency that Dallas currently lacks. Having played alongside Bueckers at UConn, Fudd would be a natural fit as her backcourt partner, giving Dallas a ready-made duo to build around.
So will the Mist take it all the way? They certainly have the recipe for it.
“Having Arike and Breanna on the same team is ridiculous,” pointed out someone.
Well, Mist truly has the services of two of the most destructive forces in the game, and when they double team, the opponents have no other choice but to surrender. Breeze found that out the hard way. Breanna added 23 points to become the top scorer of the game, and that also played a huge part in Mist’s win.
Now the stage is set for a Mist and Phantom showdown as Arike and company would look to channel the same level of aggression to earn their maiden Unrivaled win. Will Ogunbowale again be able to hit the winning shot and become the hero? Or will the Phantoms spoil their championship hopes? Tune in to find out.
