Allisha Gray did not choose to ‘play around’ during the Atlanta Dream’s recent matchup against the Indiana Fever. With 6:10 remaining in the matchup, which the Fever squad eventually won by a 77-60 score, a viral moment occurred when Gray turned around on the court, responded by saying something to some spectators in the crowd, and then notified venue security to remove them. The incident affected the WNBA star, as she “looked visibly upset” and had to be consoled by a teammate. While many would sympathize with Gray, a WNBA analyst isn’t amongst them.

YouTuber ‘FlyHippie’ recently discussed the two Fever fans being escorted out of the playoff matchup. During the segment, the host criticized Gray’s actions, stating, “The players have to have thick skin. They have to understand this is what comes with having fans. This is what comes with having a high attendance, right? You’re going to hear these things. You’re going to hear these things. I’ve heard way worse than, ‘Oh, you’re good, Lexi. She’s not even trying anymore.’ Like, come on, man. You let that get to you, Allisha Gray.”

That came in light of the context some netizens provided. One of them revealed that the man in the black hat complimented Lexi Hull, who was running to guard Gray, by saying, “you look good Lex, she’s not even trying anymore”. That was it. The fan did not throw any obscenities or insult her further than that. Despite that, Gray reportedly “lost her s—” and said some “nasty” words to the man and the people around him. The netizen claimed that the ejected people were eventually let back in, and that they were only removed since “it was protocol to remove the fan to allow the player to calm down”.

‘FlyHippie’ was right when he claimed that worse things have been said to players by fans than “She’s not even trying anymore”. Back in 2021, a matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Indiana Pacers went into overtime. LeBron James approached a referee, pointed his finger at two people occupying the courtside seat, and asked that they be removed. The female fan even sarcastically made a pouting gesture on the camera and mimicked fake tears, while the male fan laughed along. Later, some revealed that one of the two fans was heard stating, “Hope Bronny dies in a car wreck.”

Back in May 2022, two reportedly unruly fans were ejected after they attempted to give unwanted hugs and have conversations with Chris Paul’s family members. In May 2025, a fan was ejected for reportedly making “racially charged comments” towards Draymond Green. Still, at the end of the day, we don’t know for sure what was said, and we don’t know what kind of headspace Gray was in.

This incident now marks another one in the growing number of instances where fans have gotten ejected over their actions. During a matchup back in late July, Kahleah Copper’s wig got accidentally yanked by Washington Mystics guard Jade Melbourne. A fan, who was sitting courtside, was ejected for “making fun” of the incident. That same month, a fan wearing a Fever jersey sitting courtside at TD Garden was escorted off the court in the second quarter of Indiana’s game against Connecticut after he reportedly insulted Saniya Rivers. Since Allisha Gray did not choose to speak on the incident, many were left guessing over who was actually at fault. Along with ‘FlyHippie’, other WNBA analysts have also been quick to assign blame.

Coley Mick Gives 2 Reasons Why Allisha Gray is Wrong in the Indiana Fever Fan Incident

A few hours ago, ‘Mick Talks Hoops’ podcast host Coley Mick devoted a major segment to discussing the incident. Similarly to ‘FlyHippie’, this WNBA analyst was on the fan’s side, as he said, “It’s heckling. It’s heckling. I hope nothing absolutely out of the line was said, but sports heckling is a thing.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is sports heckling just part of the game, or should players like Allisha Gray push back?

Have an interesting take?

For many, sports heckling is a form of motivation. Michael Jordan once said that he used to invent insults from opponents to psych himself up for games, then unleash beast mode. Draymond Green once used a heckler’s insult to push himself since, as he claimed, “Everyone on our team heard the guy on the bench talking. And everyone, including our coach, was like, ‘Draymond — shut him up.’”

This was Point No. 1 for Coley Mick to be against Allisha Gray. Point No. 2 was that Mick believed Allisha Gray’s frustratingly poor night was a factor that pushed her over the edge. Not only did the Indiana Fever dominate, but Gray only scored 9 points by shooting 4-16 field goals, 1-4 3-pointers, and 0-0 free throws.

It remains to be seen whether Allisha Gray will choose to speak out about the incident or not. However, even then, opinions will remain divided on who was in the wrong here.
