When a generational basketball talent steps foot in the WNBA, they startle and challenge the league with some of the most stupendous performances in the belt. Not because they have to, but because they need to shatter the overshadowing expectations set by the predecessors. And Indiana Fever superstar has successfully managed to exceed them. Caitlin Clark not only proved her mettle on the hardwood, but also in her personal relationships. No wonder fans are in awe of the athlete!

Clark has been a in a two-year relationship with her former college classmate, Connor McCaffery. The two not only support each other professionally, but also in personal matters. Remember when the Fever star congratulated the younger McCaffery brother on his prom night’s photograph with a playful message, “Bro’s really in love“? This indicates the bond she has developed with the McCafferys over the years! And her boyfriend did not stay behind either.

As the assistant head coach of the Butler Bulldogs, Conner McCaffery, recently made an appeal to all Caitlin Clark fans. He pointed out at a bizarre observation and shared how fans often remark, “Go Hawks!” whenever they see him. In a sarcastic yet light-hearted post, McCaffery penned his thoughts on X, that read, “Idk why people still yell “Go Hawks” when they see me, like…. No? Go dawgs! Go Quakers! Go Fever!”

Referring to the couple’s history that dates back to when they were student-athletes at the University of Iowa, McCaffery urged fans to stop associating him with the Hawkeyes anymore. Instead, he appealed Clark’s fans to chant for his men’s program- the Bulldogs, instead. He even emphasised on his high school basketball team, the Iowa City West Trojans and Clark’s Indiana Fever as apt names to call the coach with.

The post also reflects Clark and McCaffery’s relationship. The couple share a strong and supportive partnership, both on and off the court. They keep appreciating their partner’s milestones on public platforms. But the cutest couple moment was when Connor had asked, “Where are mine at @Nike?” after the brand dropped an image of OKC athlete, Alex Caruso, rocking a pair of Clark’s Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Indiana Fever” PEs earlier this year.

However, just as fans started pouring love in the comments section, McCaffery deleted the tweet. Maybe he meant it for someone special, and removed it once they gave a nod of approval. Or maybe he thought that the sarcasm can take a wrong turn altogether. While we may have several reasons to argue over why he did that, let us just sit back and enjoy the light-hearted humour wrapped as sarcasm in the post as his girlfriend prepares for the ongoing games.

Caitlin Clark set to face the New York Liberty

After sitting out five consecutive games, Indiana Fever’s superstar, Caitlin Clark is gearing up for a solid return to the active roster. Indiana Fever’s official social media handle confirmed the news on Friday and shared an image of Clark with a caption that read, “She’s back. Caitlin Clark is ready to play against New York.”

Ironically, Clark was sidelined more than two weeks ago due to a sprain in the left quadriceps. The injury emerged right after the team’s first showdown against New York Liberty. And who could forget the epic Clark-Cloud scenario in the final moments of the game. While Natasha Cloud’s clean steal did come under the fans’ radar, they officials chose not to respond.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Conner McCaffery's deleted post a sign of deeper tensions with Caitlin Clark's fans?

Have an interesting take?

Moreover, Clark managed 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 assists in the match against the reigning champions. Clark could have secured more points, if it wasn’t for Cloud’s defence. Having said that, the athlete has averaged 19 points, 6 rebounds and 9.3 assists for Fever before being sidelined after a left quad injury.

But as Caitlin Clark looks for a strong comeback in game two, can she give a befitting reply to the highest ranked team in the 2025 WNBA regular games? Or will she succumb to the pressure of veterans like Sabrina Ionescu, Brionna Jones, and Breanna Stewart? Keeping the result aside, one thing is certain. The tipoff is surely going to be nothing short of fireworks.
