It’s been a tough sophomore year for Caitlin Clark. She has been missing half the time while shooting poorly for the rest. And that is bad news for the Indiana Fever and the League as a whole. While she had been back from injury on a minute restriction, she had little to no rhythm, and the calls of taking Clark’s development in stride were only growing.
And that’s when the disaster hit. Caitlin Clark hobbled off the court in the fourth quarter of the game against the bottom-of-the-barrel Connecticut Sun. Why was Clark still on the court in the final minutes of the game against a team they were expected to beat? The fact was that the Fever were not beating the Connecticut Sun after three quarters were finished.
Indiana was clinging to a slim two-point lead, and history wasn’t on their side. In the season opener, the Sun led by just four at halftime and still walked away with a narrow win. Faced with a familiar situation, head coach Stephanie White had a decision to make: rest Caitlin Clark or risk her health to secure the win. Even in her current form, Clark remains the heartbeat of Indiana’s offense. White chose to keep her in, and while the Fever came away with an 85–77 victory, the fallout may be far more costly.

Clark appeared visibly shaken after tweaking her groin in the final seconds, a potential reinjury that left her in tears. The full extent is still unknown, but White confirmed she “felt something” and will be evaluated further. With the WNBA All-Star Weekend just days away, and Clark set to captain Team WNBA and headline the three-point contest, her status now hangs in the balance. For fans, her absence would be more than disappointing. For the league, it would be a major loss. And for the Caitlin Clark faithful, frustration is boiling over.
Fans Erupt as Caitlin Clark Injury Puts All-Star Weekend and Season at Risk
“Everybody wants to see star players,” White said before facing the Dallas Wings, “Think about who tunes in to watch LeBron vs. Steph (Curry), right? It’s those kinds of matchups.” The All-Star Weekend is the king of these matchups. There are so many storylines, Clark’s first all-star weekend as captain, and that too in Indiana, the city she calls home. Understandably, the fans are angry after her injury.
What’s your perspective on:
Should Caitlin Clark risk further injury for All-Star glory, or prioritize her long-term health?

“Caitlin Clark should have never came back from the previous injuries. She will not be participating in the All-Star games, which is sad because it’s in Indy. I pray she’s not real hurt or the injury isn’t the same ones he’s had previously. I want to see her at her best,” wrote a fan. In hindsight, that might be true, but they had already taken the process slowly and prioritised her long-term health, as White had commented. If we are to believe she was match fit, they needed her back on the court as the team was going through a series of inconsistent results. Now, they have a three-match winning streak.
There has been no update on the extent of her injury, but even if there is the slightest chance that playing the All-Star game may dampen her injury, she may very well sit this one out. Although the league will definitely take a hit commercially, it would be the best option for her in the long term.

One fan took things to the extreme, posting, “Caitlin Clark should sit out the rest of the season—no All-Star Game, no CBA negotiations, no appearances for the league. Just rest and recuperation.” But the latest update shows Clark heading in the opposite direction. She has confirmed her participation in the upcoming CBA negotiations. While she’s not a team representative or a member of the committee, her presence carries weight. As the face of the league, her involvement is expected to influence the direction of the WNBPA’s stance. As for sitting out the season, that’s not on the table. Clark came into the year with her sights set on a championship, and with the Fever finding their rhythm, that goal is still alive. And she’s not backing down.
“I don’t think Caitlin Clark should participate in the 3pt contest or the All-Star game. I know it’s at home, but it’s not worth risking furthering her injury. Not to mention she’s shooting like Ben Simmons at the moment,” wrote another fan. Considering the risks, if there is even a slight risk of further injury, this is the way to go. Her shooting form doesn’t help her chances at the 3-point contest either, but if she were to participate, the point guard will still be one of the favourites despite her “Ben Simmons” like form, but the risk is not worth it. It will be determined upon further evaluation.
“Injury before was on the left. This is clearly the right side. Hopeful not another strain,” wrote another concerned fan. Clark did seem to grab at her right side after slipping late in the game and was clearly in discomfort as she made her way to the bench. Her emotional reaction immediately raised alarms, pointing to the possibility of a fresh injury.

That could be more concerning than a recurrence of her previous groin issue. A new injury would mean starting from scratch in rehab, physically and mentally. Clark has already spoken about how tough the initial recovery was, especially because it was her first real battle with injury. She admitted the mental toll was worse than expected, saying it hit harder because “she had never been through this before.”
Caitlin Clark’s injury scare has sparked concern across the league. With her All-Star status uncertain and the risk of a new groin injury looming, the focus now shifts to her long-term health. Whether she plays in the festivities or not, her impact on the game is undeniable, and keeping her healthy is more important any All-Star event.
