For Sydney Colson, Gainbridge Fieldhouse holds special memories. Her first championship win came here while playing college ball with the Texas A&M Aggies. So, when she joined the Indiana Fever after a successful stint with the Las Vegas Aces, she knew it felt right. “I won here my senior year [at] Texas A&M…so it just felt like divine timing,” she said. While she hasn’t made the impact she might have hoped for on the court, her friendship and chemistry with Caitlin Clark have been undeniable.

Unfortunately for Colson, her season was cut short after suffering an ACL injury in her left knee in the first quarter against the Phoenix Mercury. The bad luck hit teammate Aari McDonald, who was ruled out for the season with a bone injury in the same game. Unsurprisingly, the mood in the Fever locker room has been low, with these two injuries adding to Sophie Cunningham’s season-ending setback.

But Clark? She’s kept her energy high. After Colson went live on Instagram post-surgery to update fans on her successful procedure, Clark tuned in and couldn’t resist having a little fun with her senior. “Syd, can u read rn.” “Flip the camera. Wanna see squad.” “Syd, give me a shoutout.” “Ain’t no way,” were just some of the playful comments Clark dropped during the Instalive.

Fans react to Caitlin Clark trolling Sydney Colson

“Haha, the ultimate troll,” one fan wrote, perfectly capturing Caitlin Clark’s antics. And this isn’t even the first time Clark has been part of a funny moment with Colson. Remember the celebrations after winning the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup? After the win, the Fever popped champagne in the locker room, donning ski goggles as is the tradition. But while the party was in full swing, Sydney Colson was still speaking with the media.

Unwilling to let a teammate miss out on the fun, Clark, Sophie Cunningham, and Lexie Hull hit Colson with a surprise champagne shower just as she was finally heading to the locker room. That’s just one incident! Who could forget her comment on Sophie’s post during their first jersey photoshoot of the season? “Little less tanning. A little more bball, ladies,” she wrote. That’s just Caitlin being Caitlin with her teammates. Another fan joined in to say, “The best troll.”

On the flip side, while Clark was busy having fun with Colson, fans noticed that Colson was still clearly struggling, likely affected by post-surgery medication. Noticing that she was having issues going through the comments of her live video, one fan said, ” Syd is plastered with meds!!” Another fan joined in to say, “This is insane going live right outta surgery. One of the realest people to ever don the blue, red, and gold. Hope she has a speedy recovery,” one fan wrote, applauding her for keeping fans updated. Colson will now be out for the next 6-9 months, the typical recovery time according to HC Health.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Caitlin Clark's humor keep the Fever's spirits high despite the injury setbacks?

Have an interesting take?

Another fan wrote, “Thank u for everything you have done by just being a great person and player… a lot of people talk about how easy it is to play, but you show up and you play.” The 36-year-old guard appeared in 30 games for the Fever, starting six, and averaged 2.4 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. Fans will always remember her 10-point, 6-assist performance against the Liberty, which helped the Fever reach the Commissioner’s Cup finals.

Yes, these numbers barely capture the impact Colson has had on this team. Her leadership and championship experience have been invaluable for the team. With Aari McDonald, Sophie Cunningham, and Caitlin Clark all sidelined, the Fever now have to lean on new signings Odyssey Sims and Shey Peddy, to carry the load. What do you think the Fever can achieve moving forward? Can the former Sparks guards help turn the tide for Indiana? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
