The Indiana Fever has one of the most hectic schedules. In the opening month of the WNBA, the 2012 champions participated in 5 games in less than 10 days. Moreover, it takes an added toll on their No.1 overall draft pick Caitlin Clark who is fresh off an exhausting senior year of college basketball and is still adjusting to the demands of the pro league.

The gravity of the situation was further evaluated by popular sports talk radio show host Jason Smith. The Fox Sports radio aired him saying, “Caitlin Clark is going to hit the wall at some point pretty soon in this season. I would say there’s going to be a lot of ‘What’s wrong with Caitlin Clark’? just because she’s not going to be performing.”

The Fever began their campaign on May 14th when they traveled to Connecticut for their season opener. Two days later, they welcomed the New York Liberty at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse and subsequently went to the Barclays Center in the next 48 hours for another face-off with last year’s WNBA runner-up. After this, they hosted the Suns in less than 2 days again which was quickly followed by their trip to Seattle this past Wednesday.

Commenting on the overwhelming schedule, Smith further added, “This is a ton of basketball. It’s a lot. And you can get past the initial excitement of the newness of the WNBA. That little bit of energy and that burst is great. But, she’s going to have bad games. She’s going to stack bad games. It’s just that there is too much basketball that she’s had to play. Too much high-profile basketball where there is no rest.”

Speaking of no rest, this hectic schedule now has a trip to Los Angeles for the 22-year-old.

LA Sparks prepare themselves for the Caitlin Clark show

A No.1 vs No.2 showdown will commence at the Crypto.com Arena on Friday. The top two draftees of this year’s WNBA drafts will take the court in order to determine who among them is a better rookie. The Sparks will enter the contest being the more confident squad given their impressive victory over the Mystics.

On the other hand, Caitlin Clark and Co. will look to end their five-game losing streak to open their account this season. According to the ESPN matchup predictor, the home team has a 58.9% probability of ending up on the winning side.

The odds are clearly against the Indiana Fever. Nonetheless, they have shown in their previous games that they have what it takes to give a tough fight to their opponents. Will they be able to cause some serious problems for the Sparks locker room? Only time will tell.
