Halloween brought out a different side of WNBA stars, with some players, including Caitlin Clark, Natisha Hiedeman, and Kaitlyn Chen, trading their basketball gear for creative costumes to celebrate the spooky season in style. Clark went for the scary look, even if many would agree that not a lot of effort went into the costume.

Instead of dressing up in an elaborate outfit, the Indiana Fever superstar opted for a low-profile, DIY approach. In videos making the rounds on social media, she stayed home in her neighborhood and hid behind a wall near her porch to jump-scare local trick-or-treaters as they walked up for candy.

In another clip going around online, Clark showed off her costume to teammate Aliyah Boston, who said she loved it. Specifically, before heading outside, Caitlin Clark FaceTimed Aliyah Boston to show off the look. And Boston, already relaxing in bed in a bonnet and glasses, burst out laughing at the unexpected, scary sight.

While Caitlin Clark’s budget-friendly costume was sending some of the youngest trick-or-treaters running, Veronica Burton, who just won the WNBA championship with the Golden State Valkyries, had her teammate Kaitlyn Chen dressed in a costume that many would consider among the funniest of the night.

As seen on Burton’s Instagram story, Chen was dressed as a hot dog. In fact, according to Burton, Chen actually found the costume at Burton’s house on the Friday night right before the Game 7 championship game. Chen had shown up at Burton’s apartment empty-handed, frantically searching for a last-minute Halloween look, and the search uncovered a full-sized hot dog costume inside the apartment.

And thanks to Burton’s accidental stash, Chen was able to pull off the now-legendary pre-game walk into Chase Center dressed as a giant hot dog, proving she “had that dog in her” right before the Valkyries captured the championship.

Natisha Hiedeman went a different route, with paint on her face, a matching camouflage jacket and trousers, an orange reflective safety vest, and an orange-and-black cap. In the picture she shared on her story, she posed alongside someone dressed as a creepy clown, almost like Pennywise, and in her caption, Hiedeman described the clown as her big sister.

The Halloween celebrations also extended beyond players, with a number of WNBA teams joining in on their social media platforms. Of all the celebrations, though, it is safe to say the Golden State Valkyries had the best one.

BooHalla: Valkyries Fans Show Off Halloween Costumes as Golden State Wins First-Ever WNBA Championship

Game 7 of the WNBA Finals took place on Halloween night, and despite the immense winner-take-all pressure of the first Game 7 in league history, Golden State Valkyries fans fully embraced the holiday. The packed crowd at Chase Center transformed the arena from its usual “Ballhalla” nickname into an otherworldly “Boohalla” for the night.

And of course, the arena had differnt unique costumes from fans. One fan dressed as a literal basketball hoop, complete with backboard and net, giant inflatable pumpkins, a Valkyries-themed Mary Poppins, and groups dressed as Teletubbies. One fan even dressed as head coach Natalie Nakase, and another as guard Kaitlyn Chen, whose hot dog costume was perhaps the most viral of all.

And amid all the costumes and excitement, the most remarkable part of the night is that the Valkyries went on to win Game 7 and secure their first-ever WNBA title, 68-63.

It is only the second year of the franchise’s existence, making Golden State the fastest professional expansion team to win a title from inception. Having debuted just last season, the Valkyries have opened a historic new era in the league. And on Halloween night in San Francisco, the fans and the team made sure it was celebrated in style.
