The Indiana Fever put on an offensive masterclass with a dominant 123-88 win over the Connecticut Sun. Besides stretching their win streak to 3, the Fever also set two franchise records. 123 is the most points they’ve ever scored in a single game, and the 70-point first half, powered by Caitlin Clark hitting all of her first five 3-pointers, became their highest-scoring half. Unfortunately, despite the historic performance, Clark is now just one step away from a one-game suspension.

During the third quarter of the game, Clark and Sun’s guard Saniya Rivers were assessed double technical fouls following a verbal exchange. That means CC now has seven technical fouls this season, and if this latest one is not rescinded, she will receive an automatic one-game suspension along with a $1,500 fine.
Even before this game, concern surrounding her growing number of technical fouls was already a major talking point. However, head coach Stephanie White tried to ease those concerns by stressing that the team has to be “strategic in using our technical fouls.”

Clark now has seven techs on the year, and if this one is not rescinded, she’ll be one away from an automatic one-game suspension. Eight is the limit.
But with another one in her bag, the 24-year-old now sits atop the WNBA with the most techs this season – a spot that she shares with her longtime rival, Angel Reese.
Although it is still unclear what sparked the verbal altercation between Caitlin Clark and Rivers, the Fever star now finds herself in dangerous territory.
Over the course of the season, she has picked up technical fouls for clapping, for screaming in frustration, and for engaging in back-and-forth verbal exchanges with opponents during heated moments. So at this point, many would expect her to change her approach.
Yet when asked by reporters on July 19 whether she felt she needed to change her approach, Clark answered: “No.”
There is no doubt about the fact that Caitlin Clark understands that her intensity and emotions on the court are a big part of what makes her one of the league’s most exciting players to watch. But if she doesn’t get her foul trouble under control soon, the Fever could find themselves without their biggest star.
Indiana is widely considered one of the top championship contenders this season. So after battling through an inconsistent start to the year, the last thing they would want is to lose Clark to a suspension when every game begins to matter even more. And that’s exactly why the Fever team needs to start looking for ways to keep her out of trouble.
