The coming of Caitlin Clark into the WNBA has been a blessing for the league. But not only the league. The Indiana Fever, the franchise lucky enough to have landed her, has benefited from it firsthand. Over the past few years, the Fever have experienced an unprecedented commercial explosion, breaking financial, viewership, and attendance records across the entire sports landscape. And this time around, the franchise has hit yet another major milestone, and Clark herself made sure to acknowledge it publicly.

On Saturday, the Indiana Fever became the first WNBA team to cross one million followers on Instagram. To celebrate the milestone, the Fever’s official Instagram page shared a post acknowledging the achievement, and Clark was right there in the comments reacting to it. “Yeah, we’re like that,” Clark wrote. She also went further to add, “Road to 2m starts now,” clearly setting her sights on the next milestone of two million followers.

Alongside Caitlin Clark, recently signed Fever forward Monique Billings was also in the comments. She reacted to the post with excitement, which she showed by the three fire emojis she dropped. And of course, it is a milestone worth getting excited about.
The Indiana Fever is not only the first WNBA team to reach the one million follower mark. They are also currently the only franchise at that level. The next closest team in Instagram followers is the Las Vegas Aces, who currently stand at 607k followers. And behind them are the Chicago Sky with 538k followers.
This is not the first time the Fever have reached a milestone like this when it comes to social media followership. They were also the first WNBA team to reach one million followers on Facebook. In fact, they currently sit at 1.8 million followers on the platform as well. That’s not all!
The Indiana Fever now have more than 3.5 million followers across their social media platforms, and that number continues to grow rapidly. Along with their massive presence on Instagram and Facebook, the Fever also boast over 905K followers on TikTok, more than 261K on Twitter/X, and around 167K subscribers on YouTube.
A lot of credit also deserves to go to the content team behind those accounts. Beyond the regular team updates, they have consistently delivered fun, engaging, and highly shareable content that has helped the Fever build one of the strongest digital fanbases in basketball.
But it is impossible to deny the Caitlin Clark effect.
The Indiana Fever have experienced an unprecedented commercial boom over the last few years since the arrival of superstar Caitlin Clark. Clark’s regular-season games in 2024 drew an average of 1.2 million viewers, which was 199% higher than games that did not feature her. Her presence alone also generated an estimated $36 million economic impact on the local economy, according to Dr. Ryan Brewer, Associate Professor at Indiana University Columbus.
Meanwhile, a report from the Common Sense Institute revealed that Iowa’s GDP saw an estimated boost ranging from $14.4 million to $52.3 million because of Clark’s impact and popularity. But the numbers don’t stop there.
One of the most notable examples of that growth has been the team’s valuation increase. The Fever’s valuation skyrocketed to an estimated $560 million, making them the third most valuable franchise in the WNBA. Before Clark’s arrival, the franchise was valued at just $90 million.
The Fever has also become the most-watched team in the league. They now hold the most-viewed WNBA games in history across major networks such as ESPN, ABC, NBA TV, and ION. Rivalry matchups, especially those against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky, shattered records by averaging 2.7 million viewers. In fact, the Fever already pulled in a massive 2.5 million viewers during the opening weekend against the Dallas Wings. And with all 44 of their games scheduled for national television this season, there is definitely the possibility of another record-breaking viewership figure on the horizon.
Apart from viewership, the Fever have also experienced massive growth in merchandise sales since Clark’s arrival. Official team jersey sales increased by an astonishing 1,193%. In fact, the sheer volume of merchandise sold at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse team store became so unprecedented that it reportedly triggered a standard financial audit because the sales numbers completely broke normal projection models. Right now, Clark’s jersey currently ranks No. 2 across the entire United States for total basketball jersey sales since 2024. She’s only second to Stephen Curry.
Apart from that, Clark’s presence has also contributed to a 225% increase in overall corporate partnerships. That means the Fever is now holding the largest number of team sponsors of any franchise in the WNBA. Alongside that, the team’s annual revenue surged to $32 million in 2024. It then climbed to $50 million for the 2025 season. The franchise also sold out 100% of its season ticket inventory, while total attendance skyrocketed by 264%.
At this point, the Indiana Fever’s rise has gone far beyond just basketball, becoming one of the most remarkable commercial growth stories in all of sports today. But sustaining that kind of momentum also requires success on the court, and the Fever haven’t exactly had the start to the season that head coach Stephanie White would have hoped for.
That’s something Indiana will be looking to change as quickly as possible.
What’s next for Caitlin Clark and co?
The Indiana Fever looked in complete control early after exploding for 28 points in the opening quarter against the Washington Mystics. And just when it seemed like the game was slipping away late, Caitlin Clark brought Indiana back to life with a clutch game-tying three-pointer while also snapping out of her shooting slump with seven made threes on the night.
But despite all the late heroics, it still wasn’t enough, as Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen both delivered career-high performances to lead Washington to the overtime win.
A lot of questions were raised about the Indiana Fever’s defense after the game, and understandably so, given that the Washington Mystics outrebounded them 44-29 and held Indiana to just 39% shooting from the field. But despite the loss, Fever fans will still take plenty of positives from watching Caitlin Clark return to form.
Clark finished with 32 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter alone, as she almost single-handedly dragged the Indiana Fever back into the game. And moving forward, fans will hope she can continue that same scoring rhythm and confidence forward.
Up next, the Indiana Fever will face the Seattle Storm, who are also coming off a loss against the Toronto Tempo.
On paper, this is a game Indiana should be winning, something even ESPN’s projections support, giving Caitlin Clark and co an 81.1% chance of victory. But considering the Fever’s frontcourt struggles and the uncertainty surrounding Aliyah Boston’s availability, this could end up being far from a walk in the park.
Who do you have winning this game?
