Caitlin Clark’s WNBA home debut attracted many people with whom she has interacted before. However, one connection of them all was Iowa. The entire staff along with Lisa Bluder and Jan Jensen reached the Gainbridge Fieldhouse to watch the standout athlete perform as a professional hooper. After breaking several records with Bluder and rewriting the history of the NCAA WBB, their connection has truly grown stronger. But, instead of going to spend some time with her old staff, Clark went back to be a part of the Fever and planned for the next outing to Brooklyn. Certainly, she has her mind set to clear her check. This is after a not-so-great start of her WNBA career where she lost two games in a row.

During their practices today, Indiana’s stellar rookie opened up about her time with the former coach at Iowa. She said, “No, I saw them for a little bit, but I didn’t go to dinner with them. They were hopping on a private jet home.” However, the former Hawkeye did greet her previous family before the game and took photos after the game. Yahoo Sports quickly took it to their Instagram account to show the love between the two as they posted a video of Bluder on the stands. They rightfully captioned the posts saying, “Once a Hawkeye, always a Hawkeye.”

The two talented individuals have truly changed the scheme of things in women’s college basketball. While one set the floor on fire, broke records left and right, and inked her name on the biggest stages of the NCAA WBB, the other guided her to be herself and unlock her potential at the best. Undeniably, what Lisa Bluder has done alongside Caitlin Clark will forever echo in the halls of Iowa and NCAA WBB for the years to come. On the same note, the No. 22 had a special message for her.

“She’ll enjoy it” Caitlin Clark rejoices on Bluder’s decision to retire

Not many coaches can proudly walk through the corridors and say that despite never winning a National Championship, they have given the world a form of energy that they will always cherish. Iowa’s former coach who spent more than two decades of her life in Iowa City’s pride is sure one. Hence, when the No. 22 guard first heard about the news of her retirement, she couldn’t be happier.

Talking about how she impacted the Hawkeyes, Clark said, “Yeah I’m happy for her. I called her and talked to her on phone. I think she probably put a lot of thought into it and making this decision. So, I couldn’t be more happy for her. I probably took a couple of years off of her career for having to coach me for four.”

Joining Iowa in 2000, Bluder led the team to regional finals for two consecutive years and guided 5 Big Ten Championships. Upon her departure, the Hawkeyes will still have a familiar face in their assistant coach Jan Jensen. “I want to chase greatness. I’d say I’m not shying away to be great,” she said setting expectations for her athletes to stand worthy after reaching back-to-back conference and national championship games.

Caitlin Clark, who shared a great relationship with her, is happy about that too. For now, she is focusing on how to raid Liberty’s home the way they did to Indiana.
