Before Caitlin Clark enters the heart of another MVP conversation, an unexpected All-Star voting twist has already put her fanbase on edge. The player was expected to compete with the likes of A’ja Wilson for the ultimate individual prize. But the Indiana Fever star is currently struggling to top the All-Star charts, which has sent the Fever fans into a spiral.

Voting is organized by position, with the top four guards and top six frontcourt players ultimately forming two All-Star teams. Caitlin Clark led the fan vote in 2024 and 2025. That’s the primary reason the league’s recent results have been met with skepticism.

The WNBA released the first-round results of the fan All-Star voting. With  253,602 votes, Clark is currently fifth in fan voting behind Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson (308,249), Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers (298,027), Fever teammate Aliyah Boston (282,186), and New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart (255,879).

For a fan base that prides itself on being the biggest in the league, this ranking was not acceptable. However, here’s the thing: Players and media members each account for just 25% of the votes. The remaining 50% of votes are by fans.

Clark sits second among guards, though the total votes she received are nowhere close to the 1,293,526 she got last year. Does this spell trouble?

Well, no! Looking at the bigger picture, her fifth-place standing puts her in a good position to secure her spot on the team. Plus, these rankings only tell half the story. Since fan voting is still taking place, the Indiana player could actually move up in the rankings later.

There is a possibility Clark could end up in the top 2 by the time the voting ends, and if that does happen, she would be one of the captains. After all, two players with the most votes are named as team captains.

Regardless, fans were surprised that early rankings had Clark in fifth position.

Fans are unhappy with Caitlin Clark’s ranking

“Zero chance that is accurate – 🙄,” wrote a fan.

“No way this isn’t rigged,” commented another.

One can see why the fans are enraged. Caitlin Clark broke all WNBA voting records last year when she garnered 1,293,536 fan votes. This number is also down from the week 1 results of 2025 when Clark led all players with 515,993 votes, despite her missing games because of a quad injury.

On a macro level, Caitlin Clark is considered the needle mover and the most popular star in the WNBA. Clark recently became one of the few players in the league to have her own signature shoe. She was also named in Time’s 100 most influential people in sports alongside the likes of Steph Curry and LeBron James. While some fans were enraged, others had a more measured take on these early results.

“You definitely can’t complain with the people above her and the fact she’s had a slowish start to the year,” another fan opined. “Hopefully with this spectacular past week and some good games coming up her numbers will rise.”

By her standards, Clark has been inconsistent. She has averaged 20.4 points and a league-leading 8.3 assists per game, all while shooting 40.2% from the field and 32.4% from the three-point line. She has had stretches where her three-ball has disappeared, and she has been targeted on defense. While that might seem like too high a bar, her popularity always makes sure it stands out. The positive aspect is that this result might not matter to her at all.

“We’re tripping, but I promise you she’s not making that face at this in real life, & that grounds me. 🤣” another fan wrote.

Clark could easily take over the voting after this early lull and perhaps either lead or be close to it by the time the next voting returns arrive.

While many fans focused on Clark’s number, others took notice of Kelsey Mitchell, who ranked at number 10.

“When nothing works, Kelsey does; she should be a lot higher than 10,” wrote another fan.

Mitchell, much like Clark, has had a spotty start to the season. But she is still averaging 20.8 points and 2.6 assists per game for the Fever. Her scoring has been electric, giving the fans a genuine scorer aside from Clark. Mitchell finished 7th overall in fan votes with 753,368 votes in the final 2025 fan voting results. After an 11th-place media ranking, she only made the reserve team last year.
