On Saturday, several newsworthy incidents came out of the Indiana Fever vs. Chicago Sky game, and one of them involved Caitlin Clark, who was initially poised to receive a suspension. Late in the third quarter of Indiana’s 90-86 win, Clark was called for her eighth technical foul of the season after she bumped into an official. So, under WNBA rules, she was all set to receive a one-game suspension, which would have taken place on Tuesday when the Fever played against the New York Liberty.

As the call was eventually rescinded, Candace Parker and Aliyah Boston couldn’t help but react to an exchange between the Fever guard and ESPN reporter Holly Rowe when the Chicago game came to an end.
“Caitlin told Holly rather confidently, ‘I’ll see you on Tuesday.’ That was the fastest rescinded technical I’ve ever seen. It was like — technical, and then as soon as I was like technical, rescinded right underneath, I was like, ‘Yeah!’” Parker said in her soon-to-be-released episode of Post Moves.
“It was like an hour after,” Boston added.
While many expected the technical to stand, it was rescinded hours later, validating Clark’s confidence.
“She said I ran into her. I’ve already watched it on tape, so we’ll let the league decide, but it wasn’t intentional and everything. So I’m hoping it’s getting rescinded. Holly, I’ll see you on Tuesday,” Caitlin Clark told Holly Rowe after the game ended on Saturday.
And her confidence turned out to be justified. After Indiana appealed the technical following the game, the league reversed the call just hours later. In fact, Indiana Fever General Manager Amber Cox had expedited the process of filing an official appeal even before the game ended.
Later, a WNBA spokesperson told Indy Star that the league had already decided to rescind the call even before the Fever got the report on why official Genesis Perrymond made that call.
If the call had stood, Caitlin Clark would have had to pay $1,500 to the league as a fine and would have had to sit out against the Liberty during a crucial period of the season, right before the playoffs. But the 24-year-old stepped onto the Gainbridge Fieldhouse court and stayed there for 35 minutes, where she dropped 22 points, secured four rebounds, and recorded a team-high 10 assists to lead her team to a 106-92 win against the Liberty.
However, it is still worth noting that even though her latest technical was rescinded, Clark still has seven technical fouls, the most in the league — a spot which she shares with her archrival Angel Reese, who also has seven. That means with 11 games still left to play in the regular season before the playoffs, Caitlin Clark remains vulnerable to another technical foul that could force her to sit out during a crucial stretch of the season.
For now, Caitlin Clark has avoided the suspension and delivered the exact outcome she confidently predicted to Rowe. The Fever will play the Dallas Wings next on August 14, but the Fever star will have to be careful because the next technical foul call might come with these consequences.
