Deep threes and breaking records every game might be Caitlin Clark’s headline acts, but her real superpower? Staying fit! 139 games at Iowa. 44 with the Fever. She is always on the floor, always competing; whether it was a hard screen, an eye poke, or tight defensive pressure, CC just doesn’t sit. In black and gold or red, blue, and gold, you always saw No. 22 on the court. Until now. In news no one expected, Caitlin Clark has officially been ruled out with a left quadriceps injury. Analysts everywhere are weighing in.
Now, for the first time, she’s set to miss regular-season action in the WNBA. Last season’s Rookie of the Year and a first-team All-WNBA pick, Caitlin Clark, came out firing, averaging 19.0 points and a league-best 9.3 assists through her first four games. At Iowa, she never missed a single game. Not one. She became the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer—and did it with unmatched durability. That’s what made this news hit harder. There were signs, though.
Back in training camp, Clark was already dealing with tightness in her left quad. She even sat out a preseason game against the Mystics. At the time, the Fever brushed it off—just “a little too much basketball.” Now? The same leg is acting up again. But a team spokesperson confirmed this injury isn’t connected to the one from camp.

WNBA content creator Rosalina Lee also weighed in on the news, and she didn’t sugarcoat the impact Clark’s injury could have on the league. She said, “I’m always lighting a candle for her health because her health is of the utmost importance. One, to her and her career. Two, to the WNBA’s success. And three, as the key playmaker for the Indiana Fever. I mean, it even shows in how much better Aliyah Boston is this year.”
Clark entered the season as the clear favorite to win WNBA MVP. She opened with odds at -115. But after the injury news? That number dropped to +210. Napheesa Collier took over the top spot, jumping from +185 to -135. A’ja Wilson’s MVP chances also got a boost, moving from +825 to +600. It’s a tough blow to Clark’s personal aspirations, no doubt.
But the impact goes beyond just individual awards. The WNBA is riding a wave of record-breaking ratings, and Clark has been at the center of it all. With the Indiana superstar set to miss at least the next four games, the league could see a big drop in ratings. To make matters even worse, one of those games that Clark is sure to miss is the highly anticipated rematch with the Chicago Sky on June 7. Fans were buzzing to see what the next chapter of the Caitlin Clark vs. Angel Reese rivalry would look like. For now, though, that storyline is on hold.

This also puts a dent in the Indiana Fever’s season outlook. They’ve built a roster with championship ambitions, built around Caitlin Clark. Her presence has already elevated Aliyah Boston’s game. Boston, who had an up-and-down rookie year, has started this season strong—with three triple-doubles already under her belt. The chemistry between Clark and Boston has been electric. Watching them operate in tandem has been one of the early joys of the WNBA season.
Coach Stephanie White also weighed in on Clark’s injury and took a positive outlook. She pointed out that while losing Clark is tough, it also opens the door for others to rise to the occasion.

Indiana Fever coach talks about Caitlin Clark’s left quad injury
A lot has been said about how Clark’s injury might affect the Fever going forward after their 2-2 start to the season. Not a start your expect from a team but championship aspirations, but we also have to keep in mind that this team has far too many new faces. Coach Stephanie White is one of them and she expects them to be fine.
“I think so. I think that’s the advantage of our depth… I think it’s the advantage of the depth that we added in the offseason. That we’re equipped. Certainly, we’d rather have [the injury] early than late. It’s a great opportunity for our team to find an identity. It’s a great opportunity for our team to play in a different way.”

With Clark sidelined with a quad injury, players like Sydney Colson and Sophie Cunningham are expected to see more minutes on the floor. It’s a big opportunity and an even bigger test for Indiana’s depth. Head coach Christie Sides will need to get creative with her rotations and trust her second unit to carry more of the load. It’s a pivotal moment that could define the team’s character early in the season. Can the Fever hold it down without their star rookie? Stay tuned to find out!
