If you are an Indiana Fever fan, look away. There is a possibility the team won’t make it to the postseason. They are currently understaffed as three key players are out for the season, and Caitlin Clark is still recovering from injury. Even if they manage to scrape their way into the playoffs, this patched-together roster risks a quick and painful exit. For now, though, their most pressing issue is the upcoming clash against the visiting Minnesota Lynx.

Under Cheryl Reeve, the Lynx look like a team that cannot be beaten. They have a 28-6 record and have already secured a spot in the playoff berth. For them, this is just a game to boost their stats. But for Indiana, it is a make-or-break one. And Aliyah Boston has opened up on how her team is faring through this tough stretch amid injury woes.

When asked about what the team accomplished this week following such major blows, Boston revealed everyone is focusing on the Lynx game. “Just continue to work on our defense. Thinking about Minnesota, the way they like to space the floor, the way they like to move the ball, just making sure that we’re just aggressive and making sure that we’re on the same [page], we’re all connected,” said Caitlin Clark’s teammate.

The last time these two teams clashed was in the Commissioner’s Cup Finals, and Indiana emerged victorious. Natasha Howard, Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, Aari McDonald, and Sophie Cunningham all contributed 10+ points to float the team. Their biggest achievement in that game was stopping the offensive push of Napheesa Collier and Courtney Williams, limiting them to 6-18 and 4-14 shooting, respectively. But a lot has changed since then.

Two of those five double-digit contributors are sidelined for the season. Along with that, the Lynx have built a defensive fortress with Dijonai Carrington. The Lynx are already playoff-bound and itching to settle the score. To make matters worse, Caitlin Clark recently suffered her third injury this season.

The Indiana Fever might go Caitlin Clark-less this season

“That’s the hope. The hope is that she’s back.” Fever coach Stephanie White initially sounded optimistic about Caitlin Clark’s return. But it looks like Indiana has been dealt the worst hand in the 2025 season. Reportedly, she suffered a bone bruise while doing an individual workout in Phoenix on August 7. Even a mild bone bruise typically sidelines a player for four to six weeks, putting her availability in serious doubt.

Unfortunately for Fever, they don’t have that much grace period. Lacking depth, they need Clark on the court as soon as possible. But White is putting on a brave front for her players. Yes, we’ve been dealt a cr—y hand, but we got to play it. You’ve got to play it anyway. And you know, I’m so proud of this group, and I know at this point it sounds cliché, but they have been so resilient,” she said.
