Someone who was not even on the roster 2 months ago almost led the Indiana Fever to the WNBA Finals. Yes, I am talking about Odyssey Sims, who effectively took Caitlin Clark’s point guard spot. Her 27 points and 6 assists were the reason the Fever took the Aces to OT. Sims saved Indiana’s night, dropping 10 in the fourth quarter and knifing in for a clutch layup to knot it at 86 with 22.5 on the clock.

She remained Fever’s only hope in overtime, but losing Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell proved just too much, and they bowed out with their heads held high. After a successful stint with Indiana, the Fever star will return to the stage she knows best. Odyssey Sims is headed back to Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball for Season 5 in Nashville this winter, the league announced.
If you haven’t followed AU Ball, Sims is sort of a legend there. Sims sits atop the AU record books, ruling all-time leaderboard points (24,067), win points (10,320), stat points (12,127), and MVP points (1,620). “Semi-unrelated to what’s happening right now in the game, but those who are shocked at Odyssey Sims’ game, I implore y’all to pay attention to @auprobasketball in the W off-season. She’s been KILLING IT the past few seasons and stays at the top of the leaderboard. It’s amazing to witness. So glad she’s able to showcase her talents on both (all) stages.” ESPN Reporter Arielle Chambers wrote during Game 5.

To further pique your interest in AU basketball, the league changes teams every week. The fans get to see the best players battling with and against each other in different combinations. In addition to Sims, the league also has the likes of Lexie Brown, Alysha Clark, Isabelle Harrison, Kia Nurse, and NaLyssa Smith for their 2026 season. Sims has been more than a revelation for the Indiana Fever, averaging 10.3 points and 4 assists in the regular season, while taking that up a notch to 14.1 points and 4.1 assists in the postseason. This performance could most certainly lead to bigger things for Sims.

Stephanie White Could Have Revived Odyssey Sims’ WNBA Journey
Odyssey Sims is 33, and the last few years have been a sign of a fading star. Once an all-star, Sims has had a tough 3 years. Since 2022, Sims has been waived by the Minnesota Lynx, Dallas Wings, and Sparks. She’s played on hardship contracts, often finding herself outside of the league altogether. However, Stephanie White believed in her experience and quality and brought her in to take Caitlin Clark’s point guard spot.
“The moment that we lost Aari and ‘Syd’, we knew we needed a playmaker,” White recounted ahead of a Game 2 against the Las Vegas Aces. “[Odyssey] does that at a high level; she has done that at a high level throughout her entire career, so right time, right moment.” Sims has answered the call with some clutch performances despite being cast out by the Sparks earlier in the season, and after the Game 5 loss, Sims explained how the coaches helped her and the team push boundaries.

“Coach put up the best in us. Um, she kept pushing us. The whole coaching staff, everybody, just we have more. Coach kept telling us we have more to give. We have more to give. So, I’m super proud um just to be a part of this group.” She said.

Her performance with the Fever gave her the spotlight needed to earn a permanent roster place. Next year, two new franchises will arrive, resulting in more roster spots. Sims could even be resigned by Fever as their backup floor general with Caitlin Clark coming back. Sims has only praised the locker room atmosphere and possibly wants a way back in 2026. She reasserted herself as a clutch shot-creator for a top-four team, thriving when it mattered most. Her leadership will be valued in any team, possibly giving Sims a shot at a part 2 of her career.
