The upcoming presidential elections have gripped the nation unlike anything this year, garnering soaring responses as Kamala Harris replaces Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate. Among the many views, for quite a few in the WNBA, it seems to be just the right move. After Sue Bird, A’ja Wilson, and a few from New York Liberty, now star rookie, Caitlin Clark’s action has her name in the mix.

On September 10th, as the presidential debate settled in, Taylor Swift posted a powerful message endorsing Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election on her Instagram. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” a part of her long stance read. A few hawk-eyed fans couldn’t help but notice that the post had garnered a like from the Indiana Fever rookie among millions of others.

Swift’s post included a strong endorsement of Harris and a critical message about former President Trump, ending with a dig at JD Vance. Swift was clear about her endorsement and encouraged everyone to vote. “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make,” she wrote on Instagram.

It seems Taylor Swift’s powerful words caught Clark’s attention. Although Clark had never previously posted about politics or Harris, her boyfriend, Conner McCaffery, has openly shown support for the Vice President.

In July, McCaffery shared a campaign video for Kamala Harris on his official Instagram account. The video, titled “

We Choose Freedom,” featured Harris’s message set to Beyoncé’s “Freedom.” “In this election, we each face a question: What kind of country do we want to live in?” Harris narrates.

But as suggested, McCaffery and seemingly Caitlin Clark, aren’t the only ones supporting Harris. Before the September 5th game, the New York Liberty roster wore white tees featuring a black-and-white photo of Harris.

“I mean, I think it’s kind of self-explanatory with the election coming up,” said Betnijah Laney-Hamilton in a post-match press conference. The t-shirts also had the word “Pyres,” emblazoned in golden peach script. “Me wearing that shirt with [Harris], you know, her being a candidate. So we’re just trying to support who we want to see,” she added. This gesture went unnoticed by many, but Burke had a broad smile and drew attention to Harris’s face on her tee as she walked to the locker room.

Earlier this year, A’ja Wilson openly extended her support for Harris, to later also join hands with Breanna Stewart and others in the league as a part of WNBA’s Social Justice Council. Then on her podcast, Sue Bird almost summing up, expressed, “Watching that, my feeling was ‘Wow’. I haven’t felt something in a long time,” after watching Harris’ Philadelphia rally.
