The Indiana Fever endured a frustrating afternoon against the New York Liberty on Saturday. They lost 75-83 at Barclays Center, thus picking their third loss in their last four matchups. It’s safe to say things didn’t go as planned, even for Caitlin Clark. After a slow start and a 10-point finish, the 24-year-old was unhappy. In fact, everyone took notice of her at the end of the game because of a particular incident.

Look, the franchise star had a rough day. She scored her first bucket very late in the game. Clark shot just 4-for-14 from the floor, including 2-for-6 from 3-point range. She finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists with 34 minutes of floor time. Now, Clark is not one of those stars who you’d tag as a “sore loser.” But something felt off about her when a teammate appeared to raise a hand for a high five.

In a video shared by X user Quin (@Quinthox), it appeared Clark walked past the gesture without responding, despite her teammate moving towards her, hoping she’d return the high-five. But since that didn’t happen, she put her hand down and tapped Clark on her shoulder. Well, you could see the disappointment on Caitlin’s face after the loss. However, not participating in something that could’ve uplifted her teammate’s spirit seemed odd.

Following the incident, social media went into a frenzy. That’s simply because history repeated itself at Barclays Center, and it traces back to March 2026. During Team USA’s FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying game against Puerto Rico, Caitlin Clark left Angel Reese holding her hand in the air for a while. In fact, Caitlin walked away in the opposite direction without acknowledging the gesture. That day, Team USA won 91-48, yet Clark didn’t return Reese’s gesture, making the moment awkward.

Therefore, fans are now drawing parallels between the two incidents and taking a jab at Caitlin Clark. Simply put, supporters aren’t happy with how the Indiana Fever star handled the moment in both win and loss situations.

Fans don’t approve of Caitlin Clark’s no-high-five gesture

“Listen. I don’t like her… but when I’m losing this close I don’t want ANYONE to talk to me. I get it,” one of the fans commented on X. Now, it’s hard to say if the fan here is being sarcastic or not. But yes, sometimes athletes prefer no interaction after a loss. In Saturday’s case, the Fever lost to Breanna Stewart and the Liberty by nine points. Considering Indiana had built a 12-point lead earlier in the contest, it’s easy to understand why Clark walked away frustrated with the result.

Meanwhile, another one wrote, “Damn, I’ve tried to be reasonable because I don’t know her personally, but this girl has the attitude of a 5 year old spoiled brat. The behavior is actually weird as hell.” This is not the first time that someone has said that Clark has an attitude issue. Many have pointed out that the Fever star often argues after calls. In fact, recently, Jason Whitlock called out Clark for her outburst against refs during the Fever-Fire game.

Now, another fan commented, “Still led the game in assist while her teammates couldn’t finish on quite a few buckets. I’d be pissed too. We’re losing, ain’t no time for bench players to get dapped up.” Caitlin Clark did have a team-high 9 assists against Liberty. Meanwhile, the rest of the starting lineup struggled. Monique Billings, Lexie Hull, and Aliyah Boston each had one assist. Kelsey Mitchell had 2 assists, and Raven Johnson offered 4 assists off the bench.

Someone then recalled the FIBA qualifier incident between Clark and Angel Reese. They said, “Remember when they said she didn’t see Angel when she refused to shake her hand during FIBA?” Now, Clark and Reese share a history of rivalry since the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball championship game. Their rivalry has remained a frequent topic of discussion in the WNBA, which is why some fans were quick to connect the two moments

Lastly, keeping up with similar emotions, a fan commented, “Just a nastyyyyyy disposition, my goodness!”

Some fans are siding with Caitlin Clark. They are seemingly trying to understand her frustration after losing the game. But for most of the crowd, her gesture towards her teammate didn’t sit well. It came off as rude for a lot of fans. And therefore, they dug out the past and included Angel Reese in the conversation.
