Boston Celtics center Luka Garza is forcing his way into the conversation with one skill few expected. He is shooting an even 50 percent from three this season, a number highlighted by Boston Celtics insider Marc D’Amico. Once viewed as a fringe piece, Garza is now drawing attention league-wide. Not just that, now Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has also added her perspective.

Clark responded, quoting D’Amico’s tweet, stating that she was aware of Garza and his shooting prowess. This comes as no surprise, as Clark and Garza both hail from the Iowa college basketball program. Even Connor McCaffery, assistant coach at Butler and Caitlin’s boyfriend, has supported the WNBA superstar’s claim.

The former basketball player reposted an Instagram Reel from the handle NBA on ESPN that features Garza’s highlights with the Boston Celtics, along with D’Amico’s tweet and Caitlin’s quote tweet.

Both legends of the Iowa College Basketball Program, Caitlin Clark and Luka Garza, came through the ranks at the Iowa Hawkeyes at almost the same time. Luka Garza was a 52nd overall pick in 2021 by the Detroit Pistons. And while he featured regularly for the Pistons, they refused the option, making him a free agent in 2022.

Picked up by the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Iowa graduate found game time difficult to come by. The Boston Celtics signed the 27-year-old in 2025 on a guaranteed two-year deal. And Garza has not looked back since. Garza has been making almost 2 out of every 3 shot attempts overall for the Celtics, with his shooting prowess adding another dimension to the Celtics’ offense.

However, it is Garza’s prowess from beyond the arc that has caught everyone’s attention. Currently boasting a three-point shooting accuracy of 51.2%, Garza is now averaging more than 16 minutes played per game and is scoring around 7.5 points on average. The Celtics are at 24 wins and 15 losses, sitting third in the Eastern Conference in the NBA.

Luka Garza’s Rise Could Eliminate the Boston Celtics’ Need to Trade for a Big Man

The former Minnesota Timberwolves Center had been a regular feature for the Boston Celtics since being signed ahead of the current season. However, he soon saw himself pushed out of the Celtics rotation, with Head Coach Joe Mazzulla preferring a small-ball lineup.

The change helped the Celtics become utterly dominant on the offensive front while not losing much on the defensive side when comparing the two play styles. However, Garza was brought back in against the Toronto Raptors, playing 26 minutes and scoring 12 points in a 112-96 win.

Since that performance, Mazzulla has increased Garza’s game time, and the 27-year-old has obliged, with strong performances in almost every game. His shooting accuracy allows Mazzulla to play more of the small-ball play style while retaining a Big Man capable of uplifting the defense and helping with the rebounds.

There were calls for the Boston Celtics to bring another big man in, with regular injuries that could potentially cause a lack of depth. However, Garza’s ability to be an automatic fit in Mazzulla’s free-flowing offensive play style makes him an option not just at Center but also as a Power Forward too.
