Sophie Cunningham being ruled out for the rest of the season came as a huge blow to the roster. As the league nears the playoffs with each passing day, the Indiana Fever is still struggling to keep track of the glaring injuries. While the current setback has further depleted their backcourt presence, another health update was waiting in hindsight. With fans certain that Caitlin Clark will no longer appear this season, the latest news confirmed their worst fears. After all, the update came from none other than Fever insider, Scott Agness.

Agness revealed that Clark suffered another injury on August 07. “It was a gloomy day, even more than we knew about in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago, before Sydney Colson’s injury, before Aari McDonald suffered a season-ending injury as well,” Agnes started. “It was Caitlin Clark who got injured, tweaking her left ankle. It’s a mild bone bruise, but it’s something she’s had to deal with over the last couple of weeks. And something that is obviously factoring in her potential return here. And I will stress this here because I know a lot of people are questioning different things.”

Despite suffering another physical setback while tending to an ongoing injury, Scott reassured that the player would eventually make a comeback this year. Moreover, Agness busted the viral myth surrounding Caitlin Clark on the latest episode of the Fieldhouse Files podcast. “To be clear, nobody’s pushing her out for the season. I don’t know why the fans keep insisting on this. Not at all,” Scott Agness started. “There’s no more tickets to be sold, by the way. This is not an average Pacers game, right? The tickets were sold. They probably were sold back in May.

With no apparent timeline for her return, many fans wonder if the team decided to keep Clark out for the season. However, the insider cleared the air in the podcast and said that, as much as the Fever wishes to reintegrate the athlete back on the roster, it is these back-to-back injuries that have kept the athlete away from the active roster for so long. Besides, the athlete, locker room, and HC White all wish to watch her play before the season ends.

Meanwhile, Scott pointed out how the recent injuries have acted as a major setback for the sophomore athlete, who was not used to juggling health issues before. “Caitlin hopes to play this season. The Fever hope she plays this season. Everybody wants to see her back this season. It’s all about body willing,” Agness explained. “And I mean it’s just the most unusual thing for Caitlin, right? Given the fact that she is not a player that’s dealt with injuries. This is all so new to her. So it’s also been terribly frustrating.” With her body failing to cooperate, the player has been under extreme medical care so far.

He further explained his point with, “See, there you go. I come on here, go live, and you say she’s out for the s…No, Caitlin wants to be back. The goal was to be back already.” With the Indiana Fever prioritizing Caitlin Clark’s health and ensuring she receives ample rest, it seems that the fans need to wait longer before they can watch the point guard finally step into the paint. As injuries plague the Indiana Fever, all eyes are on the latest front office stunt and whether it will bring a much-needed respite to the depleting roster.

Indiana Fever Joins Hands With Ex-Sparks Player

After Sophie Cunningham joined Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson on the sidelines, the Indiana Fever had no choice but to bring in another hardship contract signee. Especially after waiving off Kyra Lambert within days of signing her. Though Lambert signed on a seven-day hardship contract, she could not prove her mettle during the Connecticut Sun game before her contract was terminated for good.

But the Fever needed to act on its feet. And in a bid to find an immediate replacement, the team joined hands with none other than Shey Peddy. Yes, the franchise signed Peddy on a seven-day hardship contract within a few hours of parting ways with Cunningham. Associated with the Los Angeles Sparks in June 2025, the veteran is expected to team up with Odyssey Sims and bring a respite to the struggling roster.

During her tenure with the Sparks, Peddy had contributed an average of 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 23 minutes per game. As the Indiana Fever navigates through the season with a revamped roster ahead of the playoffs, can the replacement signees contribute equally or further drown the team? That remains to be seen.
