The WNBA world came to a standstill when Candace Parker hung her boots. The 38-year-old had to spend a majority of her time off the court due to a foot injury last season. Therefore, there was doubt over her return. Parker’s retirement caught attention from all quarters, including the recently drafted Los Angeles Sparks rookie Cameron Brink.

Brink was present with ‘The Sporting Tribune’ during day one of her practice session when she was asked to reflect on Parker’s legacy. Brink’s answer gave everyone a glimpse of how Parker had influenced the younger generation.

Reflecting on the sudden news of retirement, Brink credited Parker for changing the game. And also spoke about how Parker was an epitome of beauty. “I think she’s kind of the epitome of like doing both… like I think she’s beautiful off court, on court. She has this amazing persona. She’s obviously changed the game for you know bigger players, taller, longer players. So I think she’s really been able to do everything in her career. You know it’s an honor to be playing you know with the Sparks where she was so dominant. So I’m just very thankful and um proud of her honestly,” Brink stated.

Parker had started her career in 2008 in the WNBA with the Los Angeles Sparks, which is the current team for Brink. Parker was an overall first pick that season and she spent the next 12 years with the same team. Out of the three Championship trophies, she had won her first with the Sparks in 2016. Parker must have also been an inspiration for Brink since the former had her broadcasting career for the NBA and NCAA in 2018 and 19 respectively. The 38-year-old was such a fashion icon that she had her collaboration with Adidas.

Brink had on similar lines once revealed in an interview with NBC that she was taught to embrace my feminine side.” Another co-incidental fact is that both Parker and Brink are 6′ 4”. Therefore Brink would be looking to emulate Parker’s style of play and trying to learn a lot from there as the 2025 WNBA season is about to commence. Meanwhile, Brink was not the only one to react to Parker’s retirement.

Thank you🙏🏼.” Wade also called her GOAT while Johnson penned a long thank you note.

Perhaps, it is legendary figures like Parker who have inspired millions- especially upcoming players like Brink. Hopefully, she will learn a thing or two from Parker and prove her mettle in the upcoming WNBA season.
