Hamby was asked about her experience with Brink in the training camp apart from being encouraged to share her views on Brink’s performance against the Seattle Storm. Hamby’s candid answer provided an insight into Brink’s mindset. Further, it gave an inside story of what it takes to be a rookie in the WNBA.
“My job as her vet is to kinda reassure her and give her the confidence and same with the rookie also. I’m in her ear alot and just trying to pour positivity into her. And I think she was really really nervous before the game tonight. But I don’t think it showed. You know she played well and I think getting them kind of monkey off your back that you can play and compete in this league because I think she was kind of nervous about it but I’m proud of her,” Hamby stated.

Notably, Brink was drafted as the second overall pick in this year’s WNBA draft. She made her debut for the Sparks in this game. She played for 22 minutes and was the second-highest scorer for the Sparks with 11 points. Other than that, she nabbed three rebounds and supported defensively with two blocks. She potted 50% field goals and three-pointers and a cent percent free throws.
One of the eye-catching moments from the game was an exemplary block by Brink while tackling the Storm’s Jade Melbourne. The snippet of the same went viral on the internet and had the fans gushing over Brink’s display. And despite being nervous given that she is still a rookie, Brink put forth a decent performance. On another note, portions of Brink’s great performance go to Hamby, who is kind of a mentor for Brink and has been guiding her lately. The closeness of the duo was confirmed by Brink.
