For a WNBA champion who has spent plenty of time around the league’s biggest stars, Lexie Brown’s opinion on the best guards should carry some weight. However, even though her top-five list included Caitlin Clark and, according to Brown, was in no particular order, she still found herself at the center of an online backlash over her selections.

The top-five list, which Brown shared on the NBA The Association show, featured Kelsey Mitchell, Caitlin Clark, Olivia Miles, Jackie Young and Paige Bueckers. A clip of the discussion was also shared by NBA TV on X, allowing fans to weigh in on Brown’s choices. However, some fans were not satisfied with how Brown addressed Clark’s stats and achievements and didn’t shy away from pointing it out.

“It’s how the other lady almost went mute when talking about Caitlin, but she kept on yapping about the others. They can’t help but undersell Caitlin and oversell the others. WNBA is a cult, and the memo has been passed around to minimize or ignore the CC effect as much as possible.”

Brown did, however, point out Caitlin Clark’s points and assists averages and even acknowledged the fact that she has now dethroned her own GOAT, Diana Taurasi, to become the fastest player to reach 1,000 points, 250 assists, and 250 rebounds. However, a different page noticed Brown didn’t emphasize and left out many of the more up-to-date stats when talking about Caitlin Clark.

“This is exactly what I mean by underselling Caitlin Clark. They’re doing a “Top 5 WNBA Guards” segment in 2026… The feature reaches all the way back to Game 54? Why? The milestone isn’t wrong. It’s outdated. If you’re making a list of the five best guards in the WNBA TODAY, then evaluate Caitlin Clark as she exists TODAY,” Sports Reciepts posted.

The page noted that while Clark surpassing Diana Taurasi was a great milestone to highlight, it was outdated and 35 games old. The Indiana Fever star reached that milestone in her 54th game; she has now played 89 career games and has created highlights that Brown did ot highlight.

Clark became the first WNBA player to record an 800-point, 300-assist season. Last Friday, she became the first player to record consecutive games where she has scored at least 30 points and 10 assists.

While not everyone wrote about stat comparisons. They still pointed out what they felt was off when Brown talked about Caitlin Clark.

“Separate words of praise for everyone but just read out stats/record for Caitlin as if she was forced to🤣🤣. Pretty sure it irks her to this day for no reason and CC did absolutely nothing to these ppl😭. At least she got her there, instead of saying ‘What’s her style? Just 3s?'” the fan said.

Meanwhile, other fans simply didn’t seem to like Brown’s screen presence.

“When is this season done… tired of hearing about this abomination.”

“My God, she’s dry. Please get her off our screens”

However, there’s also good reason why fans have become vocal about Caitlin Clark and how her stats have been presented. Earlier in an episode of The Athletic’s No Offseason podcast, host Zena Keita said that Olivia Miles has generated the all-time WNBA rookie assists record this season.

However, in reality, Clark is the one who holds that record at 337. In fact, Clark’s record is second on the list of all-time single-season assists, regardless of her rookie status, with only Alyssa Thomas besting her with 357 assists. Meanwhile, Miles is over 100 assists behind Clark.

Following the blunder, Ketia even had to apologize for the mix-up on social media.

“For what it is worth, I AM genuinely sorry for unintentionally sharing a bad stat. My producers and I should have caught that before posting and will do better moving forward.”

While Brown won’t have to apologize for her list, it’s clear that at least a section of the fans won’t hesitate to point out any shortcomings from analysts.
