During her exit interview, reporters asked Caitlin Clark one of the most pressing questions about her future with the Indiana Fever. She is eligible for an EPIC (Exceptional Performance on Initial Contract) extension, and Clark clarified that she was undecided about signing the extension, and she and the Fever haven’t sat down for any discussion on the contract because she had been “playing 18 holes every single day.”

It’s been 11 days since the Fever crashed out of the first round after losing the first-round series against the Las Vegas Aces. On Monday, for the first time since her exit interview, the Fever star gave the first update about her offseason plans on her Instagram, and the pictures were not surprising. Clark was enjoying golf. On her Instagram story, she posted the serene scene of the unidentified golf course at sunset.

Clark is an avid golfer and one of the best at it in the WNBA, and even among her male counterparts. After her rookie season in 2024, she participated in The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican. A year later, she participated again without much practice. During her exit interview, Clark said that she didn’t play last year because of her injuries.

“I didn’t play at all during the season, just with some of the back stuff that I was dealing with and just wanting to make sure my body was in as best shape as it could be,” she told reporters. “But the weather here in the fall is perfect. So, it’s been fun getting to play.”

Clark’s 2025 season was plagued by injuries. With two groin injuries and a quad that bothered her at the start of the season, she was limited to just 13 games. Right before the playoffs, Clark announced that she was going to sit out ‌the season and focus on her recovery.

The Fever star admitted that her long absence from the golf course has made her swing a bit rusty. But assured that she is getting her swing back by playing with her boyfriend Connor McCaffery.

“I’ll be completely honest, like this is embarrassing to admit,” Clark said when a reporter asked her about her golfing plans this offseason. “I stepped up to the first tee and swung and whiffed, and I told Connor I was like, ‘This is maybe the most unathletic thing I’ve done in probably years.’ That was very humbling, but I have since figured it out. I’ve been playing a little better.

It appears that Clark won’t be playing in any major event during the offseason. After two consecutive years, she won’t be participating in ANNIKA later this year.

But it’s not just golf that Clark will find herself busy with during the offseason. The Fever’s three seasons have been marked by early playoff exits. After a second first-round exit in her three years in the league, Clark and the Fever are more pressed to build a solid roster, and the 2024 Rookie of the Year has a big role to play in the plan.

Caitlin Clark hopes to play a part in roster construction

The Indiana Fever ranked among the league’s best offensive teams during the 2026 regular season. However, their first-round exit exposed a lot of holes in their roster construction.

The Fever didn’t have aggressive athletic bigs who could have provided them defensive length at the perimeter and given some extra points in the paint. While their defense was bad all season long, the absence of a certified offensive star besides Kelsey Mitchell and Clark herself made their situation chronic if one of those stars didn’t have a great game.

The Fever were always vulnerable against a good team, and the loss to the Aces was just the first realization. By the time they realized it, they were out of the playoffs. Indiana has a very important offseason coming up they can use to address their roster issue, and Clark is not averse to her involvement in decision-making.

“I think that’s the responsibility of probably me and [Aliyah Boston] at this point as kind of the two leaders of this team, and then obviously hopefully we get Kelsey [Mitchell] back, and she can be helping us as well,” she told reporters.

Clark is eligible for her EPIC deal, which would mean that a large part of the salary cap space would be taken by her and Boston. But the Fever star seemed more helpful in her approach and ready to make some sacrifices to sign better players.

Last year, the Fever didn’t make many changes to the roster. They were able to reach the semifinals without Clark and Sophie Cunningham on the roster. So, the Fever’s moves were limited to “texting and calling.” But after this season’s early exit, the team needs to start thinking fresh, and Clark assured that she will be involved in calls.
