Hands down, the biggest improvement this year came from Angel Reese. The six-foot-three center for the Chicago Sky rounded out her game and even became the second-youngest WNBA player to record a triple-double this season! Reese’s facilitation, offensive touch, and leadership underwent a huge transformation, turning her into even more of a threat. Now, because of how good she’s playing, Angel Reese is also starting to get showtime comparisons!

Michael Cooper, a 5x NBA champion with the LA Lakers, recently shocked the basketball world by comparing AR to one of his former teammates, and UNC standout, James Worthy. “I would say that without the dunks, she can get to the basket; she can get flamboyant about it,” Coop said in an interview with Brandon Robinson. Worthy, a three-time Lakers champion, thrived alongside Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, excelling as a transition scorer in the “Showtime” era. Cooper said Reese could grow into a similar role with the Sky.

And after this amazing victory, Chicago HC Tyler Marsh took it a step further, saying, “There’s a lot of players who possess that type of versatility, and I think that’s the word that always comes back to Angel.” He talked about the James Worthy comparisons and about his star’s overall improvement. “There’s just so much room for growth, but there’s so much progression that she’s already shown from year one to year two.”

The biggest improvement in AR’s game has been her playmaking and offensive awareness this year. Obviously, these things are bound to improve as she plays more and more games, but still, Angel Reese went from averaging just under 2 assists last year to hovering around the 4 APG mark this year. Marsh recognised the young star’s improvement and how she’s “realizing all the other aspects of her game that can be effective.” We probably would’ve seen even more improvement from Reese in August if not for her back injury. She ended up missing over 20 days of play, making her return against Seattle. However, it didn’t feel like she lost a step, not at all!

Well, we knew she was gonna be great, but according to Marsh, she could be one of the best! “I think that what she’s able to do now, and what she’ll continue to be able to do for this league, she’s gonna be one of the top players in this league for years to come,” he said, and we can’t wait to see it!

But Angel’s effect on Chicago hasn’t just been through her game. By diving for loose balls, running up the court with a high motor, and boxing out in every play… She’s beginning to inspire her teammates with her work ethic! After all, the Sky forward goes full blast every single night, and her co-stars love it.

Chicago Sky center admits massive Angel Reese influence on her game

Tyler Marsh’s entire game plan is based around two people: Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. The Twin Towers, or the Skyscrapers, are responsible for over 27 points and 20 rebounds each night. Basically, they use their size and their reach to dominate other frontcourts by controlling the glass every game. And it works! Standing at six-foot-three and six-foot-seven respectively, not many teams can match up with the size that Chicago brings.

Even in their latest victory against New York, Reese put up 21 and 10 while Cardoso put up 22 and 15. Even Jonquel Jones and Emma Meesseman weren’t enough to put a stop to the terrifying Twin Towers. However, Cardoso’s rebounding efforts looked different against the Liberty. And as Karli Bell reported, her teammate Angel Reese is responsible for that shift in mindset. “I just try to inspire myself after Angel. She’s a great rebounder, and I try to do the same thing.” Cardoso said, as per a tweet by Bell.

The chemistry between the two bigs is honestly exciting to watch. Both Cardoso and Reese are in the beginning stages of their careers, and they’ve got a long way to go. If Chicago takes the initiative to better its backcourt and provide the Twin Towers with pieces that they can use, then Tyler Marsh’s team stands a chance at an immediate playoff run. It will be interesting to see how the Sky front office deals with this conundrum in the off-season.
