How Does Chloe Bibby’s Family Support Her Career?
Chloe Bibby hails from a small town north of Victoria, Warracknabeal, where she lived on a farm. The town has a population of just around 2000. From one of the remote towns, Bibby has gone on to play and reside in some of the biggest cities in the world. As a kid, Bibby played netball, which was Leigh-Anne’s specialty, but she was introduced to basketball in fifth grade, and her innate talent was evident.
In their town, Bibby was just too good to improve any further. To encourage their daughter, the family would take Chloe about 45 minutes away to the Horsham Hornets amateur team. The family would even take her to Melbourne, which was four hours away, at 14. Every Friday, the Bibbys would pick Chloe up from school, hit the road to Melbourne, and spend the weekend immersed in games and intensive practice sessions.

At one point, that proved too much for Chloe and the family. At a young age of 15, Chloe packed her bags to leave for Melbourne. There, she attended a boarding school and played semi-pro games. Leigh-Anne Bibby said, “You can’t tell that redhead anything. She makes up her mind about something, and she’ll do it. And she has.”

“She was just that type of person, even at that age,” her father, Adrian, added. “If that’s what she thinks, we should probably just let this happen, support her and just see where it goes. We didn’t know. So we just thought, ‘We’ll just see where it goes.’ ”
Melbourne turned to Mississippi and then to Maryland. The parents travelled across the globe to support her, even in the USA. In 2022, the couple travelled to Maryland to be in the stands for their victory against Rutgers. Despite it being a deeply personal moment for Chloe, she was unbothered. She played like it was any other game and said afterwards, “I got to do what I have to do on the court regardless of who’s watching me.” Bibby joked. “I mean, it’s great that they’re here and I love that, but you know, I can see them after.”

It was not the first time they made this long trip, as they saw her in a Mississippi shirt in 2020. “I probably cried,” Leigh-Anne said. It was an emotional moment, especially at the time, with the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects just wearing off.“It’s just so much different being able to see in person, obviously,” Adrian said. “And then just to see the whole team play, it was great.” Bibby was among the few international recruits in the college basketball circuit, and she rarely gets to show her game in front of her parents.

Relationship With Her Family
Bibby’s parents help keep Chloe grounded despite her exploits in Europe and the WNBA. “My family and friends keep me in check,” Bibby has said. Despite being in the US for many years, they also help her remember her roots. She said, “They’ll let me know if I’ve got a little bit of American slang or something like that. They keep me pretty humble and make sure I don’t forget where I’m from.” Bibby has been around Europe and playing internationally for a long time, and she has inculcated the cultures there in the process. No matter how far she goes, when Chloe is reunited with her parents, she instantly reverts to her roots as that genuine small-town girl.
