According to reports, Caitlin Clark is in talks to train with NBA trainer Chris Brickley. One of the most skilled and experienced trainers, Brikely has worked with top stars like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Carmelo Anthony. And, now, he’s waiting on Clark’s decision.
Speaking on The Line podcast on October 26, Brickley revealed that he and Clark have “been talking for a few years” about training together. “Some teams are like, ‘No, you need to be with me for the first three years.’ This is happening with me and Caitlin Clark,” Brickley shared. “So Caitlin finished her rookie season. We were going to work last summer, but I was gonna have to go to Indianapolis. And I respect it. When you’re young on your team, you work out at your practice facility.”

NBA trainer Chris Brickley on Caitlin Clark:
“I’m hoping now this off season that she’ll come to New York and we’ll get some work in…Man, she’s the reason why the WNBA has become so big. I’d love to work with her…and I love her competitiveness.” pic.twitter.com/XCrVWUsVBc

He paused, then added the line that ignited the speculation: “So I’m hoping now, this offseason, I’m hoping that she’ll come to New York and we’ll get some work in. Man, she’s the reason why the WNBA has become so big. I’d love to work with her. She’s an amazing talent… and I love her competitiveness, too.” His statement was enough to set social media ablaze.

I mean, arguably W’s biggest star, training with the NBA’s renowned coach, is an ideal combo. After all, CC’s trainer, Keith Porter, is already suffering a torn Achilles Tendon, and it’ll be someone else helping her this offseason. So why wouldn’t it be Chris then?
But while it’s a big opportunity for the former Hawkeye star, making it happen this 2025 offseason might be a bit tricky. We already know the kind of adversity-ridden sophomore year she had. She’s been through four different muscle injuries, and even now, she’s undergoing rehab. As head coach Stephanie White shared on October 26 during a recent interview with the IndyStar on Fever Insider LIVE with Chloe Peterson and Brian Haenchen, “We’re not jumping into anything that’s too much right now. We have the ability right now to take it on a week-by-week basis and do some 3-on-3, doing some 2-on-2, building into 5-on-5.”
She added, “Her being able to play in game-like situations is going to be important. It’s been a long time building back into that, but it is October. She needs to be able to slowly build back so that from an endurance standpoint, she’s laying a really good foundation so that we’re not having any setbacks or any regression.” So, for CC, the top priority this offseason is getting back to 100% health.
But she’s also got a packed calendar. To start with, she’s committed to play at the Pro-Am at the Pelican Golf Club in Florida on November 12. She’s even intended to work with Team USA as they prepare for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in September 2026. So, yes, it would be a tough decision for CC even this offseason. But if it happens, CC might have to take some advice from her teammate.

Sophie’s off to New York already!
New York is a city with basketball in its veins. After all, it’s home to Madison Square Garden, often called “the Mecca of Basketball.” That’s because legends like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James have delivered some of their most iconic performances there. So, it’s a different kind of energy when you play in NY. And Sophie Cunningham’s already experiencing it.

Before settling in Florida, she’s made a pit stop in New York City. “So I pulled an all-nighter last night,” Cunningham shared on her Instagram stories. “Been looking at houses. Flew up to New York because I’m going to be on Good Morning America tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. It’s only going to be like three or four minutes, so if you blink, you’re going to miss me. But tune in if you want.”
After the announcement, she even did a mini food review from her NYC hotel room, raving about dumpling soup and pineapple fruit tea. “I know my family kind of hates New York,” she laughed. “They like to visit, but they’re not a big fan of it. But I love it… I like this city, but, like, in doses.” So yes, there’s some advice Sophie might need to give CC if she ever plans to stay in the city-even if it’s just for practice sessions. But what do you think? Will it happen this offseason?
