When the Sun sets in LA, something’s gotta give. One team’s breaking streaks tonight – question is, whose? The Los Angeles Sparks, desperate to snap a brutal six-game home skid, welcome the Connecticut Sun, who’ve been just as cursed on the road, dropping eight straight away games. It’s a battle of bad luck on both sides, and while the court might be level, the stakes are anything but. Beyond it, though, how are things really stacking up for both squads? Let’s break it down.

Injury Report & Probable Lineups
Sparks: Cameron Brink: Out (Knee)
For the past three games, Cameron Brink has been the only name on the Sparks’ injury report. But that might change soon. On Saturday, Brink was spotted working out individually with the team’s male practice players, and head coach Lynne Roberts later shared she’s hopeful the sophomore will be back by the end of July.
Sun: Marina Mabrey: Out (Knee)
Last month, the Sun announced that veteran guard Marina Mabrey would be sidelined for 2–4 weeks after suffering a left knee injury during their game against the Dallas Wings. The injury occurred in the second quarter while she was guarding Wings star Paige Bueckers in Connecticut’s narrow 86-83 loss. Since then, there’s been no new update on her status.

Connecticut Sun vs Los Angeles Sparks Prediction: Who Breaks the Streak?
The Sparks (6-14) haven’t tasted a home win since May 25, when they took down the Chicago Sky. They showed early promise on Thursday, jumping out to an 11-point first-quarter lead against the Minnesota Lynx, but it slipped away for good early in the second, ending in a 91-82 loss. As for the Sun (3-17), they finally snapped a brutal 10-game losing skid with a surprising 93-83 win over the Seattle Storm at home on Wednesday. But the celebration was short-lived as Seattle got its revenge in the next meeting itself, handing Connecticut a 79-65 loss in the rematch.
Statistically, Los Angeles is averaging 5.9 fewer points per game (82) than Connecticut allows (87.9). On the flip side, Connecticut’s offense is putting up just 71.7 points per game – 15.5 fewer than what the Sparks are giving up (87.2). LA is also hitting fewer threes in their last 10 games (8 per game), but they’re doing it at a slightly higher clip.

Historically, while this is their first meeting of the season, the Connecticut Sun swept the Sparks 4-0 during the 2024 regular season. In fact, the Sun have won 13 straight regular season games against LA, with their last loss coming back on August 28, 2020. But we have to admit that this Sun team isn’t what it used to be. The core lineup is gone, and Mabrey – who led the team in their last matchup – is out. On the other hand, LA has Kelsey Plum this season, who’s leading the Sparks with 19.9 points per game.
Per ESPN predictor, LA holds a 74.9% chance to win, and we’re leaning the same way. This might just be the night they finally protect home turf and end a 5-year losing streak to Sun.
