What does true love really look like? Loyalty, support, and an endless supply of affection, right? Well, for many WNBA fans, it looks a lot like Caitlin Clark and her partner, Connor McCaffery. Often hailed as the most beloved couple in women’s basketball, the two are constantly cheering each other on, whether it’s online or courtside. Remember when Clark was jokingly called Butler’s “good luck charm” during the offseason because their wins seemed to coincide with her being on the sidelines? Maybe it was just a coincidence, but it also showed how often Caitlin made time to support Connor. Now that the WNBA season is in full swing, things have gotten busier, especially as Clark faces some growing pains in her rookie year. But even with packed schedules, one thing’s clear. CC’s guy is still solidly in her corner.
And we’re not just saying it. Connor McCaffery has been proving it in subtle but heartwarming ways. Just recently, he went the extra mile by showing up at Indianapolis’ Gainbridge Fieldhouse to support Caitlin during her second game back from a left groin injury, this time against the Atlanta Dream. What made it special is that it wasn’t just a solo visit; McCaffery brought the whole Butler squad with him to cheer her on from the sidelines.
Efeosa Oliogu-Elabor, Jackson Keith, Azavier “Stink” Robinson, and Coach Connor himself were all there, showing love for Clark. Adorable, right? But this isn’t a one-sided relationship as Caitlin plays her part just as well.

Just last Tuesday, Caitlin gifted the Butler Bulldogs men’s basketball team a full set of her Nike Kobe 5 Protro PE shoes. The surprise drop came on July 8 and carried deep meaning, blending personal ties, brand power, and Clark’s generosity. The same shoes had sold out in less than a minute when they hit the market, making them one of the most coveted basketball sneakers of the year. “S/O @caitlinclark22 for the new kicks!” the Butler team posted on Instagram, sharing photos of players sporting them during practice. That’s love, in every form.
Coming back to the Fever vs. Dream matchup, Caitlin needed that support, especially with her current shooting slump. Clark’s shot isn’t exactly on speaking terms with the rim this season. She’s shooting 37.6% from the field and just 28.9% from beyond the arc, a noticeable dip from last season. Also, among 35 players getting at least 10 shots a night, Clark ranks 31st in field goal percentage. And of the 14 players launching five or more threes per game, her 3-point accuracy comes in at, well… 14th. These numbers, fans are not quite familiar with them when it comes to CC.
“I know [my shot] is right there and it’s going to fall,” Clark said postgame. “But I thought honestly, this is probably one of the best games where I’ve just managed the entire pace of the game and managed the way we need to play, especially in the second half—took care of the ball really well.” Makes sense, she’s still recovering from an injury that left her shooting just 11.4% from three over a five-game stretch, the worst such percentage in WNBA history (minimum 35 attempts). So yeah, the support from Connor came at just the right time, especially since she also got her name in the history books by becoming the sixth player in W’s history to reach 950 career points. But, the best part? It’s not even the first time he’s shown up like this!

Connor’s social media says it all. Remember December 2024? That’s when the Indiana Fever posted a list of Clark’s rookie accolades on X, and Butler’s assistant coach wasn’t having it. He responded with a sarcastic but impactful reply: “Is that all???” While playful, it served as a reminder that Clark’s achievements in her rookie season simply couldn’t be summed up in one post.

But his loyalty didn’t stop there. Heading into Year 2, when Caitlin returned to Carver-Hawkeye Arena for a milestone night, fans noticed Nike’s glaring silence on the occasion. Connor joined the chorus of disappointment by retweeting a fan’s sarcastic call-out: “.@Nike y’all don’t got internet or what?” followed by a stream of laughing emojis.

It was yet another bold move that proved he’s not afraid to call out major brands when he feels Caitlin’s spotlight is being unfairly dimmed. Clearly, Connor isn’t just stepping up courtside; he’s showing up beyond the hardwood too, making sure the world knows he’s got her back.
