Currently in her 9th season in the pros, Courtney Williams owns the hardwood and thrives on it. So, it was no different when she marched with the Minnesota Lynx and stirred the pot in the Wintrust Arena. In fact, even head coach Cheryl Reeve couldn’t help but remark, “Courtney didn’t look like she was playing almost 36 minutes.” Williams’ flawless gameplay sets her apart from her ex-Chicago Sky teammates. While Angel Reese & Co. put up a brave front against the highest-ranked team, the Sky came crashing down 91-78 as the Lynx avenged the loss.
While Napheesa Collier contributed to the win by averaging 29 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists, Courtney Williams bolstered the team towards a victory run. Needless to say, Williams added 18 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals against the Chicago Sky. Her formidable presence is a threat to the opponents, especially when coupled with Collier. While these scores left a deep mark in the arena, they gave Williams a chance to open up against trolls.
In a post-game conference, Williams opened up about the online treatment meted out by the Sky fans. The guard was subjected to heavy trolling across social media accounts after the game wrapped up. But as a professional with years of experience in the league, the fans failed to break her morale. Known for her positive mentality, Williams gave an eight-word message for the fans. She took to X (former Twitter) and wrote, “Preciate the motivation SkyTown! See yall next time.”

She also reposted a clip on X where she talks about being targeted. “I mean, I had a shoulder on my chip for sure. I mean, after we lost the last game all my comments- Instagram, Facebook, Twitter- was flooded with “You ain’t beat Chicago,” Courtney Williams confessed. “They wanted to be trolls but they can’t troll a troll. So we had to get out and get back. They knew what time it was.” Talking about the motivation to avenge the loss and shut the unnecessary blame, Williams highlighted the heavy backlash she received online.
This incident occurred after the Lynx faced a 6-point deficit against the Sky. But the roots of this doing traces all the way back to June 2025. Cameras caught Courtney Williams asking Dallas Wings player, DiJonai Carrington, “Oh the Wings are 1–8. Who did you all beat?” Williams asked the player on TikTok, curious to learn about the first win by the Wings. But this incident did not end here.
Williams further pressed the question, “But for real, who did you all really beat? Chicago? You all didn’t beat Chicago?” To this, Carrington simply answered, “Connecticut.” The Wings secured their first win of the season against the Connecticut Sun on May 27, 2025. They were led by rookie Paige Bueckers, whose 21-point contribution worked wonders for the Wings. However, the simple question on TikTok came back to bite the athlete.
After clinching an 87-81 loss, the Chicago Sky took a light-hearted jab at Williams and the Minnesota Lynx. The official Chicago Sky account used the throwback quote on X. The team shared a poster of a yelling Angel Reese against a big, bold ‘W’ alphabet, with a caption, “y’all ain’t beat chicago???” The caption was a direct dig at the Lynx guard.

In fact, even Carrington went against the Lynx star. She even retweeted the poster with, “ayoooooo…nah yall funny af for this.” However, Courtney did not let these external noises disrupt her gameplay. Instead, her points and the team’s overall victory were enough to shut down the chatter as fans watched her avenge the previous loss in style. Besides, constantly being in the public eye has taught the Lynx athlete more about social media trends and not letting negativity affect her.

Chicago Sky HC congratulates the team after a gruelling showdown
“I think we’re getting everybody’s best shot. Every game has been a test for us thus far no matter what side we’ve come out of it on.” As the newly appointed head coach of the Chicago Sky, Tyler Marsh has faced his share of difficulties within the locker room. While he has addressed the looming issues and loopholes time and again this season, Marsh is gradually receiving the fruits of his labor.
Meanwhile, Marsh complimented the Sky’s roster despite adding another loss to their belt. “We’ve seen a ton of pressure, and I think that was the biggest adjustment we saw tonight.” After all, facing the highest ranked team in the W is no easy feat. Despite dominating the first half half 44-46, the Sky succumbed to opponents Napheesa Collier’s impeccable defences.

Having said that, though still in her second season in the pros, Angel Reese seems to have finally found her rhythm. Reese was one of Sky’s standout players against the Lynx as she clinched a remarkable 22 points and 10 rebounds. She even scored her ninth consecutive double-double in a game.
This further ignited the Chicago Sky into diving head-first against the Minnesota Lynx. Moreover, Rachel Banham added 15 points and Rebecca Allen scored 10 for the Sky. Despite adding 27 points, Ariel Atkins was assisted out of the game. She failed to return in the next half owing to a potential leg injury. As a key contributor for the roster, it will be difficult for the Sky to maintain a better scoring in the upcoming games without Atkins.
