It was all smiles for the Indiana Fever at the Gateway Center Arena. In Stephanie White’s experimental rotations, the team had secured its 3rd consecutive win, sealing the preseason 3-0 shut. But while the performances are calling for tunes of championship, post-game antics are brewing stories of their own. It started with the Mystics, and now the Atlanta Dream kept it up– trust fans to run wild with the theories.

In a close game Saturday night, Aliyah Boston scored nine points and five rebounds in just 19 minutes of play. On the other end, there was someone matching her stride– Naz Hillmon. The Dream guard came off the bench to put up seven points and four rebounds. But that wasn’t the drama. This one came moments after the buzzer was sounded, which saw Fever take the win 76-81. So what transpired?

Star center Aliyah Boston was speaking with Rhyne Howard as teams shook hands after the game. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Naz Hillmon approached her and pushed her shoulder with her left hand. Though it looked harmless, what followed next confused many. Hillmon pointed her finger at Boston’s chest and began speaking to her.

Her animated talk also took Boston by surprise, who later tried to explain something to Naz. Though fans were eager to know more about the incident, the camera shifted to other players, leaving the Boston-Hillmon moment ‘unanswered.’

If we go back to the Indiana Fever’s first preseason game against the Washington Mystics, the teams didn’t even shake hands and went straight to the locker rooms as the final whistle sounded. Speculations filled up X after Rachel DeMita had noted the same on the platform. This even pumped up the curiosity. But luckily, fans did not have to wait long to get their answer for this one.

When the video went viral on social media, amassing over 175,000 views in less than two hours, Boston cleared the air. She replied to the post saying “Please let me tell the people ain’t no beef. Lmao cause they are taking this and running.” Naz was also quick to respond with, “they dragging it! All jokes babes, wish yall see our handshake after. See you soon AB.” New besties in town? Because we have seen dynamic prevailing all off-season long and then some.

Angel Reese has gotten away with calling Kahleah Copper “grandma” and then following it up with “weirdo” and “I’m so off you.” The two have been at it since becoming Unrivaled teammates. They even had Lexie Hull in at one point, challenging her to walk out to “Set It Off” song, and she gladly obliged. Then more recently, Natasha Cloud showed up in a shirt featuring Sabrina Ionescu’s Met Gala look, cracking up people around. Now that’s a banter we love. And by the looks of it, Boston and Hillmon did not look far from sharing that dynamic.

But even before the two stars had gotten a chance to clear things up, fans had run with speculations. In fact, some followed even after the duo’s tweet.

Fans are being cautious about the Aliyah Boston-Naz Hillmon incident…

When the video was posted, one of the users expressed confusion. “the broadcast came back to this shot like 20-30 secs later and everything was calm, but not sure if it was all the same players. Very confusing interaction.” What added to it was Boston’s confused state. The Fever star may have cleared things up, but the interaction still remains a mystery.

“Ain’t no way this wasn’t a serious interaction, Aliyah was very confused though,” another chimed in. We could jump aboard the latter point, but the seriousness of it? Boston hasn’t left that for an option.

Apart from her post, the forward is known to be a positive presence, lighting up the locker room. Caitlin Clark attested for that in her rookie year. It was visible in her interaction with Rhyne Howard, too, just seconds prior. So a few users disagreed. “There’s no way this is serious because who would ever come at AB like that lmao literally one of the sweetest people in the W. They joking but I think AB was caught off guard,” came a response.

Moreover, Hillmon and Boston shared the court together as a part of the 2019 USA U19 World Cup Team. So a few refused to believe there was anything serious. “No it wasn’t. They were smiling for a couple seconds,” another clarified, while a keen-eyed spectator corroborated with “not at all, look at rhyne’s face.” The Dream star, who shared the screen with Boston as a part of the Player Marketing Agreement (PMA) last year, looked quite confused herself. And she didn’t jump in to de-escalate things.

Well, the case shall be closed now with the preseason itself, but back on court, they are going to have their game faces on. The two teams will go at it on the 22nd of May at the State Farm Arena.
